Great job on this great toy Ed. Thanks.
A beater is pretty well all I can hope for (which I know would not satisfy), so happy to see your nice minty ones. BTW, links both go to part 2.

Great review Ed. Thorough, informed, and enlightening as always (though I risk sounding a bit trite in saying so). It's apparent from your avatar that Daibaron has a special place in your collection. Out of pure curiousity: why? Thanks much and great job keeping the Giant Robot spirit burning.

bt1, true, an old beater one would not satisfy. I've had an imcomplete set but sold it off ebay a year ago. I drooled when I saw Ed's set and found it hard to believe that a set in that condition exist, what more he has two! I just wonder how much a set of that condition would sell if ever there is one for sale? Any idea?

Ed great review by the way. Are you thinking of connecting them for the review? I wouldn't dare!

Out of pure curiousity: why? Thanks much and great job keeping the Giant Robot spirit burning. Funny question, something that I've never thought about...but a good question. Yes, DaiBaron has a special place for me because it was a take-your-breath-away aquisition from about 1996 or so. See at that time the internet networking hadn't been well established, collectors were luck to find a good shogun warrior, let alone Japanese boxed toys (in America). This particular big box set had a history in how I found it; then it arrived, I was shocked at how heavy it was. So it has a history. Then for me, it is one of the best, most artistic designs out there. The face sculpt and two color look is pretty cool too

Ed great review by the way. Are you thinking of connecting them for the review? I wouldn't dare! Yes I will connect them...but a qualified yes. I happen to have a few extra parts, loose incomplete ones, that I'll show combining in the next review. You may think it is the minty ones, but it is a combination of the slightly used pieces . This next video is loading right now on youtube & should be ready in about 2 hours. Be sure to sign up for updates if you haven't already. AS for your cost question, I find it pretty dicey to guess on this toy. Someone may disagree, but I put it on a par with the GA-50 Gaiking/Daikumaru set. For the GA-50 set I've seen incomplete very worn sets sell for 800 USD or so. I've seen the -50 sell complete without box for around $1200. Then I've seen good condition boxed sets for around $2400 or so. BUT....I find that condition makes price exponentially go up. I know as a fact that a new old stock GA-50 recently sold for well over 5k. Some will have to pardon me for talking pricing. But I want to answer your question and it is difficult. This "comparable" is my way of illustrate that pricing is all over the place with condition and, who you pay to find it, and timing making a big difference. In 1996 I paid about $900. My advice is to figure out what you like "ahead of time" /before things appearing for sale. Figure out your personal fair price or priorties. I won't mind paying extra for toys that I've been searching out for 20 years. Others, I don't want to get them for more that what I consider fair and will wait.

Awesome, Ed! I just saw the third installment. Very nice. This is one of my most coveted (but unattainable) toys! I knew it was big, but when you assembled it, it looked huge next to your hand. Is this as tall as the Voltes V DX?
So the chrome parts in the chest don't actually fire? It didn't look like there was a tab on the end of the part, and when you turned it around, I didn't see a launcher pin. Same with the red part in the groin - does the groin shoot out the red part?

Part 3...now it is processed: It is pretty huge Kingboy. It is as big as the DX GoLion, almost exactly, but quite a bit heavier. No, the Voltes V is a good inch or so taller...I'll be posting a BIG collection photo shoot with many of the toys for a size comparision (unfortunately not with this guy in it). No, the chrome chest missiles and groin attachment do not shoot. That said, the chrome and blue missiles fire off of the leg launchers and then the tank gun, which can attach at odd places via magnets. If you are looking to loose an eye, you can put in a pen spring into that chest and force the chrome missiles to shoot....in theory Ed

Great review of a superb robot, thanks! Daibaron is one of my No.1 robots. I love him and I still hope that I pick one up sometimes. My "substitute" for the DX version is a ST version. Better than nothing There was a "ok" looking loose one on ebay some weeks ago. But I missed the end of the auction...I'm gettin' older ;D

Oh what a journey, ever since I rekindled my passion for super robots, the one I wanted was Bullmark's Daibaron, for the past 5years I've never made any attempt to fulfill my dream until I saw JWM's auction. These babies cost over a thousand dollars for most of the auctions I've seen. A beater could be anywhere between $600 to $1200, I decided to least to get a decent specimen. Incidentally a loose specimen just went for 90000 Yen in YJ. My collecting philosophy is to just collect 1 version of a toy and move on, I really wanted to bid for JWM's Daibaron mid size (half dx). Space is a concern, I thought the DX is too big! So I embark on an ebay selling spree, but by the time I raised enough $$$ the auction was already concluded. So I turned my eye on getting the DX version, I got the lower half from YJ and now courtesy of MaruMaru ebay my quest is completed, cost just a fraction bit over the start bid price of JWM's Half-dx, of course I don't know how much the piece actually went for. Btw MaruMaru is a great guy (yes, I agree some of his prices are sky-high), if you think his is pricey, there was a similar piece in YJ albeit in a better condition for 79000 yen, factor in the domestic and international shipping plus the proxy service commission the price could really blew up. Now I've to be contented for the rest of the year because I've used up my almost all of my allotted budget for the year! I don't want to be selling off stuff in Ebay, it's so unpleasant to part with any robots. Hey Ed!, sorry for hijacking this post.... Attachments:

Thanks guys! Unfortunately although the lower half, the Bakshin is dead-stock mint condition, no paint chips and the magnetic joins are really shiny BUT it's missing a bag of missiles and the wing-lets <sigh>.... Anyone has spares <of course I'm willing to pay), I just need two blue and 1 chrome missiles and a pair of wing-lets, but I think I will just let it be, it's so hard to search for Diabaron parts. You only see so few decent specimens turn up on YJ on a yearly basis.
Btw I've not combined the two halves yet, cos I'm afraid of paint chips, this is my most expensive acquisition to date! Oh well maybe one day when I'm drunk... haha
