I got the Houryu/Tobikage Set. While I really don't dig the poseable Tobikage's aesthetic, the transforming bird-bot is AMAZINGLY good. Super solid with an ingenious, but simple, transformation, and frankly the robot doesn't even look like a transformable figure even under the closest scrutiny. It's an amazingly high-quality piece.
One of the amazing things is how solid the wings are. I was concerned there'd be some flop of some sort, but nope. It's flawlessly executed, despite the potential pitfalls inherent in the design. A+ effort from Bandai.
.. I think the poseable Tobikage might stay in the box, though...

As an addendum: Jesus OW. The "feather"details on Houraioh's legs are d**n sharp. I'm currently bleeding from trying to bend his hips. Beware!

Yeah. I am more interested in the Houryu figure than the poseable Tobikage. I like the Tobikage from Kurojishi much more. Cool and articulated, but without over stylized. Too bad I can't just buy the Houryu, at 60% of its retail price.

Just curious, what is it about the stylized version you don't like? Too pointy, or too streamlined maybe?..
I'm guessing that Zerokage will be the same size as the stylized version?

Maybe it's because the stylized version just doesn't feel quite right, the plastic feel. I don't know. The Smaller one can transform and has better joints. But I am saving that version to be used in the Dragon. And because ZeroKage is the same size as the Stylized version, It only make sense to pose the two fighting one another. Here are some quick shots I took because I finally got the chance to sit down and play with these both transformed Daizenguar and Aussenseiter in P'ferd mode, not! ThunderPheonix Top Flight View The Pheonix mode takes up too much space to display, so he's back in the cube in Robot mode And the Current Display cube looks like this. Awaiting for GX-56, then I will move the Houryu down from the Riser.

Just curious, what is it about the stylized version you don't like? Too pointy, or too streamlined maybe?.. Kind of. Stylized figures are fine as they are, and I collect some of them too. Just like super robots are stylized in the Revoltech line as well, which I totally dig. But as a SOC, that aesthetics don't mesh well with all the other ones in the line. SOC tends to capture anime accuracy, with just a tad of modernizing to the sculpt. But they stick fairly close to the line art, as much as they could (unless the line art themselves are badly proportioned). So the transforming Tobikage fits the bill perfectly. But the poseable version on the other hand is a very artistic take on the same character (very pointy & skinny), which is very rare among other SOCs. It looks cool, but feels very out of place as part of a gokin release, IMHO.

I don't mind the stylized aesthetic on its own - the problem I have with tobikage are purely proportional. He's UGLY. His hips are wider than his shoulders, his "belly" is super-tall, and his head is miniscule. To top it off, his crotch plate is itsy-bitsy, which just serves to make his thighs look bigger, His design takes the hyper stylized look too far in my eyes, and fails to make a figure that is actually aesthetically pleasing as well as poseable. As far as being a poseable figure, he's great. I just hate how he looks and it doesn't fit in at all with the blocky look of the companion robots.

Ok, I can see both of your points on this. Early on I used to feel the way quinjester does, but then as more pics came out I realized that a lot of what I didn't like came from poses that accentuated those thighs. I wouldn't mind if the head was maybe just a little bigger, but its still a heck of lot better (and bigger) than the Gigabrain Tobikage head.

Well, to each it own I guess. Because I like the look of the posable version more. Much more modern. This is what Tobikage would of look like if he was drawn by todays artist. Longer and slimmer instead of the shorter chubbier look. The SOC line has always been about older classical robots. But since when does having a soul means that it has to be old and a classic. A mix of old and new would be good.

There seems to be a problem with my delivery, it hasn't arrived yet, even though I used EMS. These are the last few updates(in order and all happened on the same day) on tracking, and I don't get them(or rather I hope it's not the way I expect it)
Processing at delivery Post Office Absence. Attempted delivery.
Final delivery
What to do?

Magmatron, sounds like the postman is trying to deliver it to your home but no one is home when he knocks. After the final delivery, you should contact the post office and just pick it up yourself.

My GX-55 finally arrived today! I am very impressed! Like quin said, you can hardly tell it's a transformable robot, and quite a transformation it is! The execution of combination with the small transformable Tobikage was clean and easy, with no additional parts necessary. You will need additional parts to combine with the poseable Tobikage though. Overall I'm very very pleased with this figure.
Can't wait to read Gold's take on this! I've kept myself from reading reviews up till this point.

You can skip all but one of the optional parts when transfroming with the poseable Tobikage, as well, I should note. You only really need the part that clips to the waist. it really is a great figure. Simple, yet well thought out. I can't wait for the Dragon Mech

Good link Deadman. Those are some of the best pics I've yet seen showing the details and articulation of Tobikage. Good stuff!

Just got mine this morning, yes! But there's a problem, the figures are full of grease! What's the best way to clean it up?
