Ok guys, I'm racking my brain here. I'm responsible for buying my nephew a Christmas present this year and of course he has Transformers memorized and has all the figures. So I'm trying to remember that cheap transformable valkyrie that came out a couple of years ago. It transformed and it was more like action figure size. But it has to transform, so no Revoltechs. Anyone remember what brand it was? I thought Toynami maybe, but I didn't have any luck in my online search. Does anyone remember, or just have suggestions?

It was Toynami. They were a 1/100 size. I did find them on Ebay, but everybody is pretty much sold out here in the US.

Well, it would be very cool, but where he's only 8 yrs. old it might be a little over budget for a family Christmas party present. Still, how much are you asking?

Thanks quinjester, but I've made the decision that I'm going to be the "cool uncle" and give him my old Takatoku VF-1S. Before anyone thinks I'm insane (which I am..) there are a couple of reasons I'm doing this. First is because I know he will absolutely freak over it. Two is because I know that it will hold up to solid play. All of us who own these old school Valks know, they can take the abuse of being a real toy. None of this little snap off, fall apart, collectors item garbage.. these babies were toys, and the last thing I want to do is have disappointment over a cool present that broke on the first day of play. So the VF-1S it is. And where I have the original Bandai VF-1 Strike Valkyrie I don't really need my VF-1S. All it's doing is sitting in its box in my closet, and it will be a blast to watch him freak out over it as he is a true lover of transforming robots.

That's really cool of you... I wonder if at 8 years old he'll appreciate and understand the convoluted lineage behind Transformers, though. I mean, you'll tell him, "it's Jetfire" but ...it's not really Jetfire. I recall that when I was little and was an ignorant North American kid, I found my visiting cousin's VF-1S to be particularly odd... (I thought it was cool but that it was a knock-off of Jetfire, of course).

The first Transformers movie was his first exposure which reeled him right in, so all he has is the newer stuff, mostly the small versions, but lots of them. The closest thing he has to Valkyrie is a small Starscream, which I'm thinking won't hold a candle to an incoming Valkyrie.

Wow, man. That's really cool of you. It's also cool you have a nephew that appreciates that kinda stuff. My nephew is a little turd who's absolutely NOT allowed downstairs in Uncle's office. I got a bin of older lame-bots to distract him, tho. ^_~
