Man, I can't believe that in a few weeks, I would be collecting SOC's for a decade! I started collecting in 2000, around my birthday.
You know what's weird... This will be the first year in a decade that I will not ask for an SOC. Instead, I will get the new Pixies $600 boxset called "Minotaur."
I am just not interested in any of the upcoming SOC's. Combattler V is one of my least favorite SOC ever (my version is so unbelievably flimsy and each part detaches so easily). And though I am a huge Mazinger fan, I have overdosed on the guy--I don't want another. Finally, I am not a Getter guy and two versions is enough for me.
Christmas this year will be different, I will get 3 SOC's that I am really excited about. Knowing me, I will get all of what I mentioned above in the future--I am an SOC color version completist. And I do want the Swordfish for my birthday but the $600 Pixies boxset the limit price for my honey.

The Deluxe Edition will include all five Pixies studio albums - Come On Pilgrim (1987), Surfer Rosa (1988), Doolittle (1989), Bossanova (1990), and Trompe le Monde (1991) - on 24k layered CD and Blu-ray (five discs total), with reinterpreted artwork by Vaughan Oliver, the graphic designer who created all of the artwork that accompanied the Pixies' studio albums. Also included in the Deluxe Edition will be a DVD of a Pixies 1991 performance at the Brixton Academy in London, the group's videos, possible live tracks, and a 54-page book, all housed in a custom slipcase. The Minotaur Limited Edition version will include everything in the Deluxe Edition, as well as all five albums on 180 gram vinyl, a Giclee print of Oliver's artwork, and a 72-page hardcover book, all housed in an oversized custom clamshell cover. www.4ad.com/news/boxset/I collect anything by 4AD (my favorite music label since mid-80's--I have a shrine/collection of vinyls, CDs, books, videos, etc in my studio). And now, I have 17 betta fishes (almost all from breeders, one of my bettas is an award winner). The fishes are my latest obsession.

I work with Kim Deal's ex hubby. It's kinda funny. But for X-mas I asked Santa for the new Getter Dragon and SOP Swordfish 2. Bummed that the Macross Quarter doesn't out before the 25th

I will get the 4AD "This Rimy River" limited edition book... But not for $2,000... It will me much, much less... It will be a an awesome birthday!

The Cocteau Twins are my ultimate 4AD band. Followed by the following:
- The Red House Painters - The Pixies - Dead Can Dance - Bon Iver - The Mountain Goats - Lush - Mojave 3 - This Mortal Coil - Heidi Berry
Glad to know of another 4AD fan on this board, KingboyD.
Magengar, thanks for the awesome greetings. I am a slave to SOC (for 10 years) and 4AD (for 25 years!!!).

I went to my very first Comic Con this weekend. I am not into comics and so I just hunted for some SOC's. Believe-it-or-not, I only saw one SOC for sale, a used Mazinger SOC GX07. I have that and so I was disappointed. However, I got into the Star Wars toys. I didn't buy anything but I would have purchased a 1997 re-release of an AT AT for $40. A kid and a collector beat me to it. Oh well, possibly for the best because I had a feeling that I would start collecting Star Wars stuff over SOC's. They bring back lots of childhood memories and plus, these Star Wars toys have a lot more playability. And they are cheaper!
As I mentioned, I am not thrilled about the upcoming SOC's. Have I outgrown them? Or are the new SOC's just not exciting? What do you guys think?

It's understandable why many folks either get tired of SOCs or simply outgrow them... ...instead of moving forward, Bandai continues "Oopsing" back to re-makes and re-issues of certain robots that were remade and reissued of their original production line specimens...
Quite frankly, I'm personally gettin tired of all the remakes and reissues. Just when I start collecting my first SOC specimen (which is a re-issue of its original product) I run into several more versions of that robot, as if Bandai were saying "If you bought This, you'll also like This, and you gotta collect This" and so forth. I just can't afford it right now. If Bandai keeps that sh*t up I just might no longer buy anymore SOCs, Period. As a consumer, I don't like being baited; especially in this hobby. ;D
For the record, I'll be honest: about my GX-01R... ...I traded an extra Yujin Mazinkaiser figure for it. I would have bought and Paid for the GX-01R, but I was already spent while acquiring new toys every other week and the Trade-in opportunity was there and I wanted the GX-01R so bad I was willing to give up one of my Yujin Mazinkaisers (I had two) at the right moment....
...So There, I have Sinned... I will drop trou so's y'all can spank me raw! ;D

Although, I like the new posable Mazinger Z - GX-45, Bandai keeps remake the old robot really irritate me. It is no a bad idea to remake the robot. Since the toys making technology jumps these few years, but Bandai overuse the licence.

I agreed. I love these remakes, but could we start the ball rolling? I mean there are tons of robots back in the 70s, 80s and 90s that Bandai haven't even touched.
If you are doing remakes, at least do them on the side in a different series. I am guessing that Bandai is having license issue. That's why the only thing that keeps teh SOC flowing is by making remakes.
Think, if we take all those remakes away, we probably would end up with one SOC a year.

I do really like GX45--my favorite Mazinger Z. But heck, I have OD-ed on that guy. Enough already.

"...if you liked This, you'll love This one which also includes accessories! Wait a minute, we take it back... gotta re-make it... the toenails need trimming and the tongue's too long... Here's the surrogate mother to go with This. Hold it, it needs better articulation... there, now it can squat like Sasuke Granma... Wait! Take This one instead, it's the same thing but Black with Ruby trim..."

I wish that Balatak is an SOC release. In a lot of ways, this is the only one that I am waiting for. And nope, there is no way in heck that I will get the one that will be released from another company. I don't deviate from my collection/obsession. This system has helped me focused and not get into bankruptcy. I am proud of being disciplined.

So I was watching "The Empire Strikes Back" today and I had fun celebrating its 30th year anniversary. I had a number of SOC's around me in substitute for Star Wars toys. I admired how well designed my SOC's are but I felt the lack of its playability. I hungered for the days as a kid when I played with my old, more durable Star Wars toys. Maybe I should start collecting. Okay, after getting a bigger home. Those AT AT's are huge!
