So I am new to this whole mechanical god concept. The first I had experienced was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I have heard the GGG was god like and recently read that Zinv from Tenchi GXP is the god of all god machines.
So what is the deal with these gods, and their powers. Who are the most powerful, and why?

I don't think there are any "Gods" in Super Robots if your talking of a Divine nature. But there have been Super Robots that have been Godlike in terms of the massive power they wield but these are just tools for the most part there not alive or anything, no different than a power drill or car but just on a massive scale. The whole idea of a Super Robot having Godlike powers started way back with Mazinger Z. The whole idea was whoever piloted Mazinger Z would have the power to use Mazinger for either good or evil and thus would have the power of God or the Devil. This was later expanded to Mazinkaiser who was stated of having power that surpassed either God or the Devil, but that was just hyperbole in saying that it was a massively powered Super Robot that had capabilities that surpassed Mazinger Z.

I believe God Raideen (The Superior) was in fact a Guardian God Super Robot, as it was Rahxephon and God Mazinger. Not too sure about this one, but Aquarion might fall in the God category as well.

What about the final form of Eva? Evas are really cyborgs more then actual machines. In the end, it seemed to shed its material nature which would include its mechanical parts to become a being of energy. So I guess its godlike nature was without machine.
Then there is Neo Ranga. I am not sure if it is really even classified as a mecha, maybe because it did not get as popular as most mecha series, but the character is a god. It is not piloted, it is an autonomous being.
But yeah Chen, I guess most have god like powers rather than godlike nature.
So who are the most powerful ones from these godlike machines.

Well, that depends in what you mean by powerful. If you're talking destructive power, a simple machine - Ideon - takes the cake, as it took the universe with it upon it's destruction.
Voltron/Golion was given the power of "a thousand suns" by a space Goddess.
The Getta Emperor absorbs anything it comes close to.
Even in Final Gao Gai Gar there was a showdown between the God of Destruction (Genesic Gao Gai Gar) and the God of Creation (Papareppa-Plus) which also had the universe at stake.
Is is very hard to pick who's boss in this anime business... ;D

That's a very interesting question.
I thought Raideen was the start of the "God" concept. He was a sentient robot from the ancient civilization of Mu that had the technology to build him; and his pilot Akira Hibiki is a Mu descendant. But I guess before I sit on this conclusion, I'd have to do more research about Raideen, and about this god mecha thing in general.
That about robots being godlike is generally refered by their powers and capabilities, as well as their overall stature and the spirit of pilots who operate them as either "heroes" who'll save Earth from destruction or "Demons" who will destroy it. They're either defenders of Truth and Justice, or vessels of evil and destruction.
As for Mazinger... it was just a robot. But as such, it was a powerful weapon capable of mass destruction if used in the wrong hands. Koji understood that. As a mortal human, he was given a choice: Save the world, or destroy it... not that he should choose either one-- this was more of a lesson to make him understand the fate that was ahead of him.
The same would apply to any human who would be destined to pilot any giant robot. A piloted robot is "dead" until it is brought to "life" by its human operator upon activation, and then all hell can break loose.
The god-like title is earned After a history of battles fought and won, to gain such fame... One is not a Master until he can get past the eighteen bronze men, and snatch the pebble out of the abbot's hand. ;D (my honest opinion. LOL)
