This really only happened recently from what I saw. DX Zambot is always a rare , pricey, and desireable piece, but not to the crazy degree. ONe recent, high, battled out, auction (that the seller is referencing) for a MIB specimen, set off the sales of 2 or 3 others that were quickly brought out in US, Australia , and Italy. All sold for over 5-6 grand in a few weeks (half the price of the high auction). So now, a new expectation is placed on the Zambot suddenly. The high price premium is ONLY for a super nice MIB specimen though. A played with, combined, taken out of the box specimen, is NOT gonna get the same craziness.

Well, actually just a couple months ago , a zambot dx in complete and mib condition was sold for more than USD 12,000. I did in fact make a thread of the outcome.
Zambot DX especially the art box one and in complete MIB is always deliciously expensive. All exceeded USD 5000 for last year and this year's auction. The cheapest I saw sold at YJ for around USD 5500 and that was in late 2008.
It's a great, beautiful (box and toy), heavy and big robot...and it's a clover, and is considered its masterpiece. It is also produced during the height of chogokin (1977). So all these things combine with the recent surge of vintage toy hunters who are not afraid of any bidding price then you got a very expensive vintage toy
That said, I think the USD 9500 is too extreme for that version of zambot (actually it is still a bit too expensive even for an art box version).

Metal Joe , you say this like the art box is more than this first version being auctioned. I thought the art box would cost slightly less. -But really don't have any facts to back up one being more or less than the other.

I got that impression from the last Zambot auction , which happened to be the one by Chogoking that is similar to the one that's still on. It sold for about USD 2500 if not mistaken (I think it is in MIB but not complete). Also other similar auction for this version if my memory serves me well always end up lower than the art box one

I think that 6600€ for a mib zambot is not that crazy but 9500$ usd is another story. You have to take into account the dollar is not what it used to be. And if an american buyer is competing with an european buyer the american one must do a lot of catching up.

Wow a topic on my Zambot dx ^_^ !!!!
I was very dobious about this toy so I decided to put a high price and evaluate the best offer. I also think there is a high $ 9.500 but you all saw the result on yahoo japan for a MIB so Best offer was included in my auction.
I think my Zambot is a solid near mint toy, currently I have received offers from Italy, but everyone but must first sell his zambot to buying mine, so is still available for all want it.

I have a zambot 3 dx italian version but is not as good as yours. It is an awesome toy! It is on the same level as sg01 imo.
