SOLD! Was lukewarm about this, until I saw the recent update with the confirmed Hot Rod bot & vehicle mode. Colors look nice and vibrant. For 16000yen with a Masterpiece quad-changer that has a big base, I am game!

That price seems to be after a discount. It says 16,800yen which would be $197.41 with the current exchange. Not all stores are likely to give a $37 discount. BBTS is asking $199.99, TFSource is $199.95.

I think that this offers a lot . I've never been a fan of the character. So its not on my list to get . But 4 transformations is pretty good. I think I would like him more if he were thicker like Optimus Prime.

Just as long as it's 60$, I can care less that it has no trailer. I have th MP-01 and has no trailer, so if this one doesn't have it, I will have less to store away. Honestly, I rarely see people display MP-01 with the trailer or even keep him in the truck mode. While it's a nice option to have, it's just an option. For the same reason, I was somewhat dissappointed with Fansproject Protector upgrade to classics Rodimus. Would have prefer that the trailer turn into some BFG like city commander and not a stationary gun.

Yeah, I never use the trailers so I'd be completely fine with this as long as the RP face is still there.
That's assuming the source is telling the truth. I have a hard time believing Hasbro is leaking info about a figure that's a year or two away, around 4 months before its Japanese release.

Hmmm I'll probably just get the Japanese release since it seems that the first Japanese run figures have the best fit and finish, the molds are brand new. I may get the Hasbro version I'm just not sure, I wish there was more of a difference between Rodimus and Hot Rod in robot mode to justify getting another figure. Maybe display the Japanese version in robot mode and then hook up the Hasbro version to the Japanese trailer so I can have both modes to display.

What does "trailer" mean, anyway? As in the entire cabin of the winnibago? Er... doesn't that make Rodimus Prime into just a cab... with legs (or from another point of view, Hot Rod without a rear end)? I'm just having a miserable time imagining what it could be like.
On a somewhat related note, I've always questioned a lot of the choices Hasbro makes when bringing MP series stuff here... We know full well MP-01 was an adult collector's item and not a kid's toy, so why did they still have to shorten the smoke-stacks? Why did they add those weird yellow highlights to his head? Etc...

Yeah, the trailer would mean the body of the Winnebago. That means there would be only a Hot Rod alt mode, although you would still be able to transform robot-Rodimus into Rodimus Prime. It would very much be a "Masterpiece Hot Rod" with "optional transformation to Rodimus Prime" instead of a quad-changing "Masterpiece Rodimus Prime".

Right, and since I don't display alt modes and all of my trailers just end up in a big box (or back in the package), I wouldn't be hurt so badly by them leaving it off as long as I can still display him as rodimus.
BTW, I figured out the transformation between Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime's alt modes. The first thing to tip me off was the different wheels on each mode, then a closer inspection of the articulation revealed they don't even share the same ends. All of the articulation points around the wheels on the back of HR can be found on the front of RP around his wheels. Really what you do is drive HR into the trailer nose first, spin the exhaust pipes around, and unfold the back end of HR to form the front end of RP. It's a very clever thing to do, I don't think many people have figured this out. In the discussion for the link above at TFormers there's a bunch of theories about flipping the figure over or that RP's alt mode is actually a shell hidden in the front of the trailer (we've seen inside there, there's nothing hidden there). However, the first picture in that link gives you a good comparison of the two alt modes' front and backs, though the person who made that image doesn't seem to have quite grasped what they were comparing. I'm curious to see just how involved this transformation will be.

This looks amazing. The best since MPOP, maybe? What do y'all think?
Also, has it been mentioned about diecast content? Is there any?

hope the Hasbro version can reach the shores of Canada.... It likely will and be like the previous Hasbro MP releases in Canada/U.S., sold as TRU exclusives.

well the way i see it, if the JP version of MP Rodimus brings his trailer and the US version will not, I would go with the JP version for having it complete. Rodimus Prime without the trailer for me its just a plain Hotrod but has the transformation gimmick into Rodimus but incomplete. He needs to have the the trailer no matter what.
Is like getting Mazinger Z without the pilder or Jet Scrander or Daizengar without his sword, there trademarks to them and whats represent them. Having Rodimus that can become Hotrod is a nice thing, but without his trailer then the Rodimus gimmick is useless.

Daizengar sword stays in his hand. Rodimus Prime trailer, well, it's a trailer like Optimus Prime trailer. Which does nothing for me and just takes up space. I just don't see a lot of people displaying the trailer accessory. Even in the cartoon I rarely see his trailer, only see it before he transform. Definately if you need to have all the accessory go for it.

I'll display the trailer, it less about if it showed up in the cartoon or not but if you have space to display it. I hope iGear makes a mini trailer for it's mini Prime so I can display it too, sure it showed up like twice in battle station mode in the cartoon but Prime without his trailer really just looks like he's incomplete and the same for Rodimus.
