((Sorry If I'm making a lot of threads recently, but things keeps getting in my head and I want to know your opinions about))
So, as we all know, Slag, the Triceratops Dinobot got his name changed from Slag to Snarl due to it now being a bad word. And Snarl happened to be the name of the Stegosaurus Dinobot from the same team.
Now, let's suppose that there's going to be a Masterpiece Slag in the future. Are they going to name it Snarl? Or use the original offensive name?
And if they are going to use Snarl, what will they do to the original Snarl?!

that was just for the animated series because the Dinobots were simple minded and they thought words like Slag were bad words in real life it really is nothing of a bad word. if a masterpiece version was released based on the original G-1 series like they did Grimlock they would keep his original name intact.

I know the change was in Animated, but according to the Wikipedia, Slag is considered a sexual slang in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Since it's a sexual slang, and Hasbro feared the negative feedback they'd get for selling a children's toy named after that, they had to change it.
So far, the name change was done once. But what are the chances of it being permanent?

hmm i never knew that, i do not see that being a problem in the usa and japan though, so maybe for those few nations that consider it a slang they will change it and leave it intact for the main release

Takara wouldn't change the name since they only cater to Japan. Anyone importing would know better than complain about a names that's been around for 25+ years. As for Hasbro, who knows? Their answer to the complaints about their upcoming Spastic figure is that they just wont release it in the UK. For something as pricey as an MP they probably couldn't do that. I think they're better off just coming up with a new name for Slag rather than steal Snarl's name again. And frankly, I don't get UK slang. We have some strange slang here, too, but we also recognize the fact that some words have two meanings and don't freak out over it. Who knew the UK was so sensitive? Emerje
