I'd luv to, that would help me learn as i go
because I'm new to the mold-making/resin casting hobby.
What I'm looking at is to find a way to cast large objects
such as a jumbo body, using a two-part mold.
But there's a catch: you can make a solid cast, which will
require a lot of resin. The end result could yield a heavy
object, and the possibility of air-bubbles trapped inside
the casted object thus making it fragile- in some cases
the air-bubbles end up on the surface as well.
Ya don't want ANY air bubbles in your casting.
You're better off making a hollow cast, especially if
the object is the size of a Jumbo's body, ie: a Great Maz
jumbo body (upper bust-waist-torso, as one unit).
If you don't plan on making any serious articulation
you can possibly get away with making a simple figure
with limited articulation (a Le Reve Mazinger figure is an
example of limited articulation).
I'd have to use an old beat-up Great Mazinger jumbo
body and actually cut it into three separate parts:
Bust, Waist, and Torso...
Now I'm getting confused about how to cast these parts.
If I were to cast them as front and back halves with
screw-holes to close the halves together.
The halves would have to be cast hollow--
--the Front half will need fixtures inside to accept
the screws to attach the back half of the part,
a similar assembly to that of an SOC body.
I'm gonna have to draw pics to show what I'm talking about.
For now I can draw 3D renditions of these ideas,
and hopefully it will help me come up with solutions to
save money and materials while turning out good quality casts.
I'll also need a facility to set up the equipment, like
a band jam space in some commercial building downtown...
...there are a few places I'm looking at to rent by
the month, I can work on my music while also use the
space for making toys.
Then I'll need to start ordering the supplies for this
project. CR Resins has an ebay store at
stores.ebay.com/C-R-ResinsI could also shop there outside of ebay by going directly
to their website at
www.crresins.com/index.htmlI will also ask that company Where can I find the same
material used for making soft vinyl objects.
Soft Vinyl (such as that material used for Sofubi figures,
and of course the Brain Condors in the jumbo Great Mazinger's
heads) is lighter weight than resin.
Resin is rigid, good for some applications where strength is needed.
Soft Vinyl is pliable, flexible, easier to work with if you
need to take connected vinyl objects apart- just emmerse
the vinyl objects in hot water for a few minutes and
they'll give you some leeway. Vinyl also sculpts easier.
You can cast it in varying densities to achieve the solid
or soft density you want.
The more I think about it the more antsy I get to
wanna get started; it's just a matter of time for me to
find myself a permanent place to live/work in, and it has
to be in a quiet area like a commercial zone, away from
noisy residential areas.
I'll keep y'all posted.
zozo-Magengar
Magengar, could you talk about your casting ideas? I welcome any chance to increase my machinder alchemy skill.
Damn, that drill looks friggin BADASS!
Perfect for custom enemy robot jumbos, too!
I'd like to get into casting repros of jumbo bodies...
...just the Great Mazinger and Getter Dragun bodies.
I'm rough-drafting some ideas on how to cast the bodies
hollow without having to blow-mold them nor tumble-mold them,
since I'll use minimal amounts of resin.
The bodies would be cast in halves (front side and back side)
so that I can screw them together to hold the limbs in place.
It's a brain-storm, but I'll figure it out.
Thanks, for showing!
