Hi Gang! Important questions-- What do you WANT for RJ , the www.robot-japan.com, in the future? What is the biggest "problem" or shortfall of the current site? What is the biggest asset or thing you like the most on the current site? -Other comments are appreciated. Thanks! Ed

-For me, I've got a few front page adjustments for my web developer.....

Just a bit more better integration between the board and the main site, I think some members here don't even know about the main site. Personally I would put all new info and reviews about toys and stuff there with discussions about those reviews or news here.

Great suggestion Chen. Yes, I would like to integrate the BBS but will need either a bit of magic forum code or a new BBS. I don't think proboards will integrate well....I think, due to frames.

Personally I would put all new info and reviews about toys and stuff there with discussions about those reviews or news here. That's kind of frustrating to hear. I try to keep a running tab in the main forum about updates on the website to specifically address this, but I agree that doesn't even help. We put a lot of time into adding more content almost daily. And yes, most people don't check out the website or comment over there. Maybe we need to just create a new forum entry for every new update, kind of like a linked discussion (like some other sites have done).

I was going comment similar to Chen's comment, but it's certainly not for lack of you guys posting about the updates. You stay on the ball pretty good with that.
The only thing that stands out to me, is perhaps the linked graphic box at the top of the forum page, that says "Robot Japan" to the right, and the peekaboo box to the "Gallery" on the left, just blends in with the advertising bar above it, so goes unnoticed as anything special. It just looks like the title to the forum page we're on.
I think just changing the graphic design/back color/size of those link boxes, to extremely differentiate it from the ads, and make it REALLY obvious that : "THIS IS THE PORTAL TO THE MAIN SITE AND ALL SORTS OF AWESOME CONTENT !!"

Great point, Jon. I agree. There is nothing clearly indicating that those are links to the website.
And as to our updates, I have not been too diligent about listing all new content on this forum. Sometimes we try to create new articles on the main website page for selected updates. but many often go unnoticed. Perhaps that is why links should be created here, as Chen indicated, for any significant updates. Or if things are slow, perhaps pull out links to older updates that have remain hidden.

Often I think towards making the proboards site phase out and have the entire bulletin board hosted within RJ. There was an offer to help recently.

But again, then we lose all the old content. That is a significant, pricey trade-off. One that I would probably not take, if it were up to me.

From a UI perspective, because that's what I do all day, it would be ideal to have news stories with discussions, a la Engadget. That said, you would still benefit from having a categorized list of topics (or news posts) and tagging would also be a great addition. I am sure Pro Boards will not export the old content or conform to the integration I am envisioning here. I new system might need to be developed from scratch or at least a lot of configuration and data migration will happen with a new off the shelf board package. But I'd be happy to help out with any UI tasks needed as part of a redesign

Well, St Patrick's Day is comin up soon... ...How about I wear a kilt, stand on the corner of the page, lift my kilt and flash a bare leg out to lure folks to check out the main site. I'd go for it if someone flashed Me that way. ;D
-----------
All jerks, I mean JOKES aside, <LOL!>... whatever it takes to differentiate the RJ banner so it doesn't look nor act like a page ad- that will let visitors understand that the RJ thingy actually leads to the main site. Generally when folks see a flashing logo they automatically assume it's an ad and are afraid to click it for fear of getting spammed or ambushed with endless popup windows.
As a regular pain-in-the-ass-visitor <LOL!> I come directly to the forum instead of going through the main website page, since I added the forum page as a tab button in my Firefox explorer toolbar for quick access and convenience. I visit the main site whenever I receive emailed updates off-site.

Thanks for the offer. How do you define UI? I've heard a few versions.... What might be nice... (I have no idea how feasible this would be). But any key words posted in the forum would generate links to the main website (directing to reviews videos etc) (at the bottom of the message, maybe just bfore the reply box etc).
Oh and vice versa. Anything on the main page might generate links to the forum.

Key words as links to and from. Nice. Don't know how it's done. When I read my emails from ebay sellers' newsletters I see words as links to other ads, and I try to avoid them Unless it's something I'm particularly looking for. We don't wanna drive folks away with click-links to ads and popups. I wish there were codes in existence that would make links operate specifically for the purpose of leading to the target page and block out links to ads at the same time. But, unfortunately, some boards and websites are paid for with ads and donations; that's why we see ads here and there. People visiting here will just ignore the ads unless there's something of interest, as long as they can visit here and the main RJ website.

RJ suggests LINK Fewture Getter Robo LINK SHOGUN Warrior Getter ROBO G LINK youtube getter robo review
etc
thats kind of what I was thinking (suggestions generated from TOpic name, and or category it's been posted in forum).

Page Jump arrows would be nice. It's hard to change pages.

I think the Page-Jump arrows are already covered when you hover your mouse over the area where it sez "<< Page Number of Number Jump to page BOX Go".......... I don't know how other folks' browsers act on this, but when I hover my mouse over that area (in a multi-page thread) I get a series of little number links as a Drop-menu and I gotta click the desired page number link really fast before that Drop-menu disappears or accidentally clicks me to the wrong page number.......... kinda like trying to Bop gophers on the head before they duck back inside their holes. ;D

Maybe a more modern, streamline, and alluring forum possibly?
