Are the Toho and Mattel 1977 ones the same? Can anyone school me? What's a good price for un-broken and loose a hundo?

The Japanese Popy Godzilla is a completely different mold and model than the Mattel Godzilla. And, for once, the Mattel/US Version came first. And I think I like it better than the Popy version. (The Mattel version looks more menacing even if the mold is not as accurate) The Godzilla from Japan looks more like the movie monster did at the time. It also has a pull string gimmick in which he roars. www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemListingRpt.php?catID=1&subCatID=26&contentID=360 There are quite a few loose Mattel versions on Ebay at the moment. I paid $110 for mine. Complete. (no box though) The fire breath control was no broken, the fist firing mechanism was fine. It has a few small cracks in the Yellow Toe claw and on the base where it screws in. And some minor pain wear on the hand claws. His limbs are a little loose. But otherwise looks great. I'd expect to pay $110-$175 for a really decent one. And $220+ or so with a good box. That's my 2 bits anyway... ~Will

The unbroken tongue lever ones go higher, but recent activity on ebay for godzilla with fist, but broken lever have been in the $40 - $60 + shipping range. Some get a bidding war and go higher, but just gotta pick and choose, and bid at the last second :-D

I've always wondered why the prices will vary widely on similar items. I've often thought it's a reputable seller that gets the higher prices. Because they are known. Or simply because they let people in the market know they are going to auction a particularly good piece.
I was lucky to get an unbroken original tongue lever. And fist. With only minor wear. The arms and legs are a little loose. But its a great display piece. I did manage to break the button for the fist though. (Note you cannot remove the fist fire mechanism without removing the push button which is glued onto a plastic pin.) I did repair it by mounting a screw inside the bottom and screwing down into the release mechanism with some epoxy at the base. I took Godzilla completely apart and cleaned and inspected everything. I hate rusty/tarnished screws and springs...

I own the popy version of the Godzilla Jumbo. and in my opinion it's way better than the Mattel version and much harder to find. they are basically the same toy, one is more authentic to the movies and the other isn't. they both have the firing fist feature. But for me the Japanese version is better because it includes a voice box that plays Godzillas signature roar. and that tops a flicking fire tongue any day of the week.

I have the Mattel Shogun Warrior Godzilla, that I bought in 1978. Nothing broken or missing, only the box is gone. But I do like the Popy version more. The Popy sculpt is way better and the voicebox roar just can't be beat...

Lots of widely differing opinions on pricing for the Mattel one offered here. Here's my take: Mattel Godzilla - $60 - $120 loose and complete. $30 - $80 loose incomplete or broken (tab often broken, toes broken, splitting along joints, etc.). $180 and up boxed. Popy Jumbosaurus - $280 and up loose (I've been in the market for one for many years now). Boxed - $? Much more. I did manage to pick up a vinyl version of the Jumbosaurus, made by Slash. It definitely keeps me happy until I can afford a real version. You can see the size comparison here, though I'm not sure how true to size the vinyl is to the JM. I assume its accurate, which would mean that the Popy one is a good deal shorter than the Mattel one. And yes, I do need a fist for my Mattel one. Anyone have a spare they can hook me up with? ;D

Until recently I would have disagree'd but the price seems to be dropping again for these. Might be the recent glut of them.
I've noticed cyclical patterns in item availability... it's weird. Daimos is making a regular showing lately. So are a few more rare figures.

Thanks for all the comments. I have watched them sell for a while now and occasionally some sell for cheaper then I would expect. I'm interested in one for display I'll pull the trigger one of these days. I'd like to have about 5 jumbos to "frame" my lil collection.

Hello, I can't seem to find the Popy Jumbosaurus Godzilla anywhere. Ebay has one for sale, but the seller asks for an outrageous price! $1,000+ bucks! Does anyone know where I can find a Jumbosaurus Godzilla other than ebay that has a cheaper price? Thanks.

ebay would be the best bet, you just have to be patient when looking for one. it comes out once in a while. and check the for sale thread, maybe someone is willing to sell theres for more than less of the price on ebay.

You try Yahoo Japan? I see one occasionally pop up on there. You will need a Proxy Bidder though.
