Bcause it is ugly! ;D The toy is incredibly anime accurate and it looks great of course, but the 1970's Pegas has got to be one of the ugliest designs in history. That's probably why it doesn't have that many followers, I guess.

Wow... Pegas & Shin Getter...ugly? Really?! Come on now. Guess if you want to put it that way, Mazinger Z is worst, with that hideous grin on the freaky face all the time...LOL Maz, Pegas and Shin Getter are all cool. The only thing ugly there is Pegas's price tag.

Alrighty then... I'll leave this thread to the thousands of fans of the 1970's Pegas then. Hmmm... now that I think about it, its design reminds me of a picture my daughter drew on a magnetic Etch-A-Sketch when she was two years old. ;D }D

Saw a couple of these on ebay for $200 shipped, which is a bit lower than Amiami's discount before shipping. While not as low as I hoped for ($150 range), this seems to be a pretty good deal. Upon further searches, most stores are either sold out on this or actually have mark-ups. So I guess they are disappearing from the market already. And similar to Jeeg, whatever they manufactured seem to sell well enough to not warrant any significant price drop.
So for those that bought this old school Tekkaman & Pegas set, whats your verdict on this gokin? What are the pros & cons, and how you like/dislike it?

One of my Favorite from CMs very 70s Bubblegum like if you get me,just a great retro feel. Not a ton of diecast but its there in the legs.I own both versions metallic and anime if that gives you an idea of how much I love the set.Aesthetically beautiful to me,although not popular with alot of people it IS one of my favorites in my colection.

Cool pic, Baron. Any quality issues on the two specimens that you own? Such as uneven tightness on joints, floppy bits, paint issues, or brittle pieces?
I sometimes get iffy parts from previous CMs releases (Gakeen & Jeeg was problem free, but the Jeeg Option Parts came with some faulty parts). Wonder if there is anything here I need to look out for.

Tekkaman & Pegas definitely need some love here...
Just opened mine and played with it a bit. Haven't try out all the features. Just pose a little and get familiar with the figures and its joints. Here are some of the little issues I run into:
- Floppy hips on Pegas. This is more of a design flaw than anything. While the hip has ratchet locks that let the legs to spread out to pose the 'Tekkaman Transformation' gimmick, the ratchets has a lot of give to let the legs swing around sideways inbetween each click. Since most of the diecast are on the legs & bottom of the feet, the weight on the legs with the not so locking tight hip ratchets cause the legs to swing around a lot. In order to keep the legs from hitting each other and cause paint chip, I have to insert a finger or two between Pegas' thighs when handling it. Could have been avoided with a better hip joint design.
- Pegas backpack not locking too well. The hook that latch to the back on the butt is too shallow, causing the backpack to open up when not intended to. A slightly deeper hook would have solved the issue.
- Tekkaman's grip (the little cylinder weapon handle) peg hole on each side doesn't hold the blades snug. Guess the holes are a tad big, causing the blades to come off too easy. Super glue trick should fix this no problem.
Small gripes aside, this set turns out to be a pretty decent set. While Tekkaman is small, he is very articulated. Some parts you have to be quite careful when posing (make sure you don't snap his pointy ears). But the joints overall is pretty snug and hold poses well for the super light all plastic Tekkaman. Pegas on the other hand has quite a bit of volume. Everything thing is thick and chunky (though a bit hollow). Diecast are on the lower arms, almost the whole leg, and the bottom feet plate. Strong ratchet on shoulder rotating front to back, light ratchet (2 clicks) on the knees, the not so great hip ratchet design, then the rest are all friction joints. Plastic quality is very CM's (middle tier), and paint job is quite good. Excellent color choices on the whole set and most paint apps are quite clean, with only a couple imperfections here and there. It is quite nice to look at and very anime accurate. The figures all hold poses well and very stable when standing. Pegas stands rock solid with his big feet, while Tekkaman also stands quite well thanks to his heel blades gave his small feet a lot more ground contact. His toes are not that tight though.
Overall, its a good purchase for me for $200 shipped, a bit lower than the retail price. But it is not one of CM's best releases. It is pretty good, especially when you like the classic Tekkaman. And there are no major flaws to be found. Just some annoyance like the ones I mentioned, and you don't feel like the engineering on the toy has the same level as a SOC. Its just good enough to make things work, nothing more. What this set excels is the old school charm of the character. It literally feels like an old toy (like a vintage Takatoku Orguss) that has simple joints, but with a much more refined and accurate sculpt of today's standard. In that sense, it is quite attractive. A very nostalgic piece from top to bottom. I'd give it a 7.5/10. Recommended, but only if you have some love for the character. It is not an essential piece from a toy design/engineering stand point, especially when factoring in the asking price.
