Hi Everyone, Thought you should hear it from the horse's mouth-- Dan Morphy of Morphy's auction will be eventually selling my collection. ----------- ****update Listings are UP on Morphyauctions.com **** morphyauctions.auctionflex.com/showlots.ap?co=31120&weid=25903&weiid=0&archive=n&lso=lotnumasc&pagenum=1&lang=En****Catalog is here to order****** www.morphyauctions.com/auctions/current********* Sale is slated for afternoon on Thursday, September 13th. www.morphyauctions.com will have details The Book will be published and shipped about August 14th. The web site will have bidding, then there will be phone in and in-person bidding. www.liveauctioneers.com will also carry the event in case you can not attend. ********************* ----------- Living on a sand bar (Pinellas County Florida) with 2 kids and family makes me put life in perspective and move on (toy-wise); my toys will now go to better homes. We will keep RJ as a site, I'll continue to do write-ups, but I will be letting go of the toys in favor of more kid time and home space. The community will continue, and I'll be in the hobby still. -But I need to lessen the load Note, everything will be sold except for a few toys my kids love and a handful of beat-up duplicates. Yes, Mekanda Robo DX, Black Daltanious and the heavy hitters will be sold Ed

Thanks Man. LOL, I've just had too many cases of kids going into my room and thoughts of hurricanes. I'm in that phase of life that it feels good to work towards a simple life, as the kids add in the complications (fun ones though)

Damn. No kidding?!?! I know you've mentioned plenty of times in the past, but I never knew you were seriously contemplating it. And I was just at the Morikami Museum yesterday (Boca Raton, Florida), and was thinking about calling them this week about doing a toy robot exhibit with your and my toys. Now that is up in the air! Hrm... And now what is my incentive to visit my in-laws?!?! Man, you suck!! (Sorry - had to jokingly enter selfish mode for a second. ) I am truly in shock. Again, I knew the thought crossed your mind plenty, but I never expected this. I don't know what to say. I guess good luck. I can't believe you won't regret this once its all gone, seeing how much this encompasses your (and our) life. And you just bought some things recently. Man, I am stunned. Hope this is just an early April Fool's joke. Final note: Its pretty depressing seeing so many familiar faces leaving the hobby, and more just disappearing from forums without notice.

No April Fools. LOL
What is interesting is that my KID's favorites have become mine in a way.... whimsical toys have their charm like the reproduction doremon Popy.
You will still have cool things to see, but I'm betting that I will make a few of my own creations like Tom F.

Hey Ed, DON'T DO IT!!!!! j/k (kinda, but not really :-P) Man... I guess we might have seen this coming, but I'm still a little sad to see you move on. Although, I definitely can understand your reasons. Still, I'd hate to see you regret letting it all go some day. I certainly hope you will continue to be the backbone (and legs, and brains, and pretty much everything else, lol) of RJ, and won't disappear in retirement altogether. And in some shape or form, I hope the RJ Summits will continue annually. This past one was great and it seems like the event is just now picking up steam. Regarding my involvement with the site, I would still be happy to contribute however I can as per our conversations. Though I really don't know how to begin, where to sign in, what to post, etc. Anyway, you certainly have my support either way in your decision. I know you have valid reasons for the lifestyle change and I can't pretend to know how I would decide if I were in your shoes. I hope the wonderful collection you have built up has brought you much joy through the years. Please keep us posted on the details of when the auction will be held. If at all possible when the time comes, I would like to be there. - Robby
PS: As per Myles' post above, will there be a pre-auction sale?

Dan had me, contractually, sell it all through the auction house. So there will not be a pre-auction sale, sorry.
He and I both really want the photo book to catalog the entire thing. It will be special, to say the least, seeing the entire thing on paper. It was something I've always wanted to do, but recognized that it was an expensive "professional" and costly undertaking.
Note too, that if the previous auction was any indication at Morphy's, there may be some good deals. There will just be Soooo much that some items may go reasonably. In fact I'm still counting at 500 pieces and haven't gotten to the garage storage space.

Gotcha. Well, looking at the last Morphy book, I think this one will over all be even more impressive, imho of course. Best wishes on the whole thing, Ed.

Good luck in your sales and in the relatively toy-free chapter of your new life! It must have been a very difficult decision on your part.

I know that the diecast portion will be more extensive, that's for sure. I still take my hats off to the vinyl & tin of Mark S.

Are you gonna sell everything? Or are you gonna keep a select few that you just love too much?

Are you gonna sell everything? Or are you gonna keep a select few that you just love too much? It will be about everything. The funny thing is that my kids have chosen a few (cheaper) toys like a reproduction Doreman and a repro Kaikaida motorcycle. So it will all be on auction pretty well with that caveat. I'll have a few duplicates too. Ed

Theres alot of stuff ive been very passionate about that ive put behind me as life moves on, skateboarding, band, racing and yet somehow i always stick with my robots. However life has a certain way of putting things in perspective which really help in making life changing decisions. I hope my robots dont have to go yet lol.You seem at ease with your decision so im sure youve though long and hard about it. Also knowing your pieces will ultimately fall into the hands of other collectors who made the effort to acquire those pieces helps also so you know they will be safe. Plus it will breathe life into them. They will be lovingly photographed and hopefully displayed once again by their new owners.

-Spot on If I miss pieces, I probably will look for the loose, broken, loved, toys that had a hard life. If I miss pieces, I probably will look for the loose, broken, loved, toys that had a hard life. Orphans, LOL So you will end up with a collection like mine! (Actually, in a sense, this is kind of funny. I always felt that everyone looked down (or laughed) at my collecting habits. Now it seems that perhaps there is an evolution towards giving up the expensive (MIMB) collections for cheaper (loose) ones. ;D )
