For me it is the Stoic toys that I still have huge respect for. Being younger than a lot of you, I will say that my collection and love tends to favor the roots/groundbreakers in each respective area/toyline. As much as I love SOC bots for example and would love to have a Daitarn or a GX-31V Voltes, I would literally cry if I had to give up my boxed played with Godaikin Voltes V or my Taiwan DX Daitarn 3 set. The museum quality design, standing tall and proud, I could care less if they move or have any posability. They are absolutely magical, little gods in their own right. When I look at my stoic toys, I get that warmth in my heart and that tear in my eye - I respect these toys just like the characters in their respective animes do. It's just a natural reaction I guess.
It doesn't mean I don't like whimsical toys - actually as I have begun to see more of them around, there are some I really like aesthetically (robomaru, robocon, etc.) especially after starting to collect the Capsule Popnika and Capsule Chogokin toys, so I will be getting some whimsical vintage stuff if I find it.
For me, my whimsical stuff right now is mainly Astro Boy - I collect the 2004 Bandai series and anything from the 80s colorized series on that looks like it has that "animated" feel (I don't like many of the Astro Vinyls or tins, for example). I do have stuff from over the years that falls into the whimsical category, but it is few and far between because whimsical stuff was never prevalent in my prior years of collecting.
