Hey all,
Recently I was working on a video about the Matchbox Robotech "Deformed" Veritechs and I mentioned in the video about the rarity of the Jetfires that came with the Macross decals still on the wings. Not 12 hours after I complete the video, my friend a massive Transformers fan/collector calls me up and says he just snagged a Macross-decaled Jetfire on an online auction - which concerned me somewhat because I now am wondering - are they not as rare as I thought?
Thanks for any input - Mike

There are two versions, the macross "sticker" version where the stripe on the wing is intact and it literally is just a sticker on the wing, and the "painted" version where there is a break in the stripe on the wing and the symbol is painted on (not like a hot wheels tampo).
The cockpits on the macross versions have a sleeker black line on them and the manufacturer markings say matsushiro. The antennas are also different and more detailed on the macross ones, not just straight cylinders like on the regular ones. Some people have a preference to which version they want, others want them all.
I may be wrong on this one but also if you look at the jetpack the little circle with lines is indented on regular jetfires and it protrudes on the macross ones.
They're still rare, but I will say more like not common but not very rare. In my years of toy hunting and going to shows, I never really saw any locally except for one or two a dealer had. A few years ago, I ended up getting a boxed sticker one when I bought a large local collection (didn't know it was going to be part of it) and a second loose complete sticker one that I think I actually got off eBay. I also have a boxed regular jetfire and a bunch of loose ones. I have never come across a painted one in person except for maybe at botcon. My gut feeling is that the painted one is rarer. Also, you need to look at loose jetfire details carefully, because if you peel the sticker off the wing of the sticker version, you'd think it was a regular jetfire if you looked too quickly. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. - Mike

Thanks for the helpful info. I will ask my friend to check and see if his is stickered or painted when it arrives!

Yes, would love to know if it is a painted version. Keep us posted! Any more questions let me know, I may be able to pull mine off the shelf if I have some free time.

Can anyone tell me what the difference in the box is for the Macross/Matsushiro vs regular Jetfire?

No box difference really. There used to be an early variant where the box code in tiny print on the front lower area was 5797 "E" (rather than "F") and it said "VALKRIE" (misspelled) next to it, but I have had macross jetfires in both boxes so I stopped going by that a long time ago.
Other than that small type the box is identical. It's the toy itself that has the differences, which I talked about in my earlier post above.

Good, the only two box differences I have are the MB Jetfire and Hasbro. Glad I don't have to be tempted to find another.

I bought a boxed near complete Jetfire on ebay a few years back. Pictures of the box were not that great. I paid $80 and when I received it I was surprised that the box was MB. First time I had ever seen one at all.

Are you in the US? MB were really only common in Europe. Regardless of where it came from, that's an amazing score for $80 even that many years ago.

Yes, I'm located in California. A seller who owned a pawn shop was selling the set. He must have got for less than half of what I bought it for. I have some luck finding things. I also have a friend that I get my HTF stuff from. He buys many collections and sells at very reasonable prices. He does not sell on ebay only toy shows and recently botcon.
