I received this in the mail yesterday and thought I would share some pics. If anyone has any info on this I am interested in knowing more. I find it interesting that the POPY is written in English and that the box says made in UK. Non of the lions have the GB 36 made in Japan sticker but they are definately original. I compared them side by side to my Godaikins last night By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20 By crpdiablos at 2012-06-20

I was watching those and was tempted, but in the end I couldn't pull the trigger. Is there any stampings on the lion body's. I would expect made in singapore or H.K. to be somewhere on them.
Very nice set. Congrats on a great score.

The only markings I find are on thr box that says made im UK. Other than that the lions are identical to my godaikin golion sets.

These sets were sold in the 80's... You could find some in few hypermarkets and toy store. I saw it several times in Paris... It was expensive... Very expensive.

Looks like both French and Italian text on these? Yes, on the giftset box and the individual lions it is both Italian and French text. I actually noticed the Italian first. Quite an interesting multi-lingual package variant. Is the paperwork/instructions and any Popy catalogue included with either the boxset or the individuals? If so are they in Italian/French also? Anyone have an idea who in the UK made or cast the lions under license, or maybe just "packaged" them? If they weren't actually produced in the UK it would be interesting to see if they are similar to the popy/bandai Japan or Taiwan release...very nice find. Can I ask if it was eBay, Yahoo Japan, etc. ? I haven't run across these in my travels.

It was Ebay but the seller.backed.out and cancelled the auction after I won them and paid for them. He would not accept my money so I cancelled my payment. It gets pretty deep with the whole story but basically I chevked ebay france all night and low and behold he relisted them only in France for twice what I paid.He must have realized what he had after he acceptedy offer. Very.shady but I got them. Unfortunately no manuals. The lions and paint apps are identical to the godaiki. Gb36 except for the yellow on the blue lions face. The yellow lines are painted on thinner on the face of the French version. So they look exactly like thee GB 36 Godaikins made in Japan but where these were actually.cast is a mystery to me too

to be honest as a long time ebayer seller that type of service on his part is pathetic and dishonest i would never have went back to him no matter what the item was. i am sorry to hear you ended up having to spend double that is really unfair.
i hope the item is worth it it looks awesome to be sure but i would have avoided the seller after that

Yeah it was very shady but I knew how rare it was.and at least its not in his hands anymore. I am havinga great experience with a collector on this site and will be posting about it once our transactions have concluded.

Nice variant kingboy! I don't know what it is from but the front boxart is similar to the dx matchbox box (version with the flap/windows, not the solid box).
The rear box art is the same as the small bandai golion model kit.
