I came across this photo by chance and I recognised it as a toy I bought back around 1976 and check this out, if memory serves I think I bought it at Kmart for around 4 or 5 bucks. I always wondered what it was and if it would be worth anything now a days. Did anyone else buy this thing back in 76 and what the hell is it from? Was it a Bullmark?

that is daibaron. he is from the show ganbaron. i cant see the whole box in the pic so i cant tell if its bullmark or not, but it sure does look like a bullmark, including the box. 95% it is. probably worth about 150-200 bucks with the box.

It is made by Eida Grip, not Bullmark. Its a smaller figure, probably about 3 - 4 inches tall. I think you can typically find them for under $100.

good info. that 5% difference goes a long way. the sculpt and box both look very much like bullmark diapolons. im suprised its only a few inches tall. w the package it looks maybe double that.

yeah I remeber it was about a half inch shorter than my shogun chogokins.. it was die cast though.. pretty heavy but the arms were all plastic. It had two pretty longish missles that shot out fromt he chest.. I also think those gear looking things on his legs came off but Im not that sure.. yeah oldrobot. I thought it was a bullmark too.. very similar look and the quality for its size was pretty similar to Bullmark

Myles hit it right on, and you can usually see the big obvious white "G" for Grip on the packaging in the square, as seen lower right in the pic above.
This is another case of several companies making different types of toys for the same licensed property. Bullmark, of course, did the majority of the toys for this character, most famous being the super sharp and heavy DX Gasshin set, and other sizes, so associating the character with Bullmark is a natural, just like Mekanda, and Diapolon also. Those also have little Grip toys made, that even combine in small form.
Most of the GRIP stuff has that signature open style pakaging with a base and diorama backboard, and a clear dome bubble over the whole deal. Bullmark has lots of window boxes, but not so much bubble dome packages.
I'll also keep an eye out for one for you, cool little pieces. I LOVE those scenery/diorama backdrops on such a tiny thing.

They made it to California at least and this was back when Kmart was the "Walmart" of the 1970s. I was about 8 years old at the time and I was visting my aunt in Vista California. She took me to the local store and I saw it sitting on a shelf in the toy section, I saw that Japanese writing and I did a backflip! I remeber that I knew his name at the time but I had forgotten it.. "Daibaron" rings a bell so, I guess there was some English written on the package too. I dont remember what the package looked like but this one pictured here is probably the same package as the one that made it the US.

Yeah he was a cool little robot, and what really made him a suprise is that he just popped out of nowhere on me when I was a kid, without any background as to who or what he was. Just a cool little robot, kinda like my diecast Shoguns but with Japanese writing on the box. Real neat when youre 8 years old. ha ha
