I managed to locate the classic toys in frys electronics in downers grove illinois, heck that place has everything including a coffeeshop.
I got bumblebee and astrotrian at $13 each so a bit steep. they are superb toys: solid, a neat managable transformation (unlike the binaltechs) and great robot modes, some of the best TF sive seen. I didnt bother with the others as im waiting for the ultra magnus 2 pack repaint of OP, I get bored with the blue/red scheme and i dont like the colours on starscream, kind of dull and plastic looking , go figure!! From what ive seen of this line (including the unreleased ones)theres some winners and loosers.
In order of greatness from best to worst judging by bot mode sculpt.
Bumblebee, astrotrain, jetfire, starscream, prime, rodimus, grimlock, megatron, mirage. i really dislike that mirage.
overall though i hope this line stays for a while. cyborgbushcricket.

I still have not seen any... We sometimes get toys early... usually we get them late.

i wonder how kids will respond to these? i reckon they will be more appealing than TF of late as they appear as real vehicles (ok quite close) which seems to attract kids a lot, i remember a kid a few months ago picking up an alternator and telling his dad he'd found a 'car' transformer, it was obviously recognisable whereas the hotpotch multicoloured fantasy vehicles of late are totally forgettable. I think the key to gen 1 was the fact that plain recognisable objects, be it a honda, a gun or plane were changed into an alternate form which then became the 'fantastic' side to the toy. Cybertron for eg has outlandish fantasy vehicles which becomes an often ugly robot, theres no dynamic if you see my point.
i can see them liking megatron for it wacky gun mode and simple transformation, pity it wasnt a walther of course!!

it was obviously recognisable whereas the hotpotch multicoloured fantasy vehicles of late are totally forgettable. Funny, I thought the same thing... in 1987 As for the "classics" Titatniums... I kinda ...hate them. They're so damn ugly. Why is it that western-designed die-cast parts are always badly sculpted? They have absolutely no detail or textrue to the sculpted parts. The heads are alright - that's about as good a compliment as I can give Prime and Megatron.

Ben, ah, i didnt clarify enough.
When i say gen 1 I mean the early ex diaclone and microchange stuff, yes i'll agree that the toys after that were fantasy based and garish even though lot of them had some brick like charm!! I bought predaking reissue and love that.
Titaniums, I hate those things, i cant even look at them!!

I'm getting really irked-- none of the stores around here seem to have them, and hasbrotoys.com is ALREADY out of them.
eBay is ridiculous, of course. Would anyone who can find me a Rodimus be willing to buy me one and ship it to me at cost? I'd be eternally grateful...

Haven't seen any. NY is known for fanboys and scalpers alike. Plus I don't get to get out much anymore.

my astrotrain has correct shoulders BUT the weird thing is that the train nose (ie the forearm shield) and the upper arm (purple) are labelled wrongly L and R, ie on the right arm those pieces are labelled L and vice versa. This must be a tooling error as there is no way the L train nose could fit on the left forearm.

I really like bumble bee--it has that solid feel in both modes, but I am little disappointed with rodimus... he looks cool in both modes, but doesn't feel very solid in robot mode. I really dislike how his hip and thigh joinsts move...
If you are not sure, just buy bumble bee. I think he is well built and thought through.

Just picked up Starscream today. Easy transformation, good paint aps and solid. A very playable toy and quite poseable. This would have made a great titanium release, but I'll have to be satisfied with plastic this time.

Ugh. I am disappointed in these. Really, I am. I got me a BB, SS, HR, and Astrotrain. I loved the G1 toys dearly and I love the idea of updating them, but something really lacks here. Can't exactly place my finger on it but something about these toys overall makes them kind of...well, weak.
Maybe it's the lack of zinc or maybe it's the oftentimes poor QC (paint smudges, scratches, ill-fitting pieces, loose joints right out of the package), or maybe because I'm getting old and these new toys just don't cut it anymore ("back in MY day...").
Don't get me wrong; they are a neat pick-up. The line is shaping up to be something spectacular. But it's not enough for this ol' timer...yet. Meanwhile, I'll spend more time tinkering with ol' MP SS. ;D

Just picked up BB and Rodimus from Target. Walmart had them all but were sold out already. Megatron is everywhere. Also picked up a Alternator prime at walmart.
