Just saw that the Robot Damashii Gundam Xi is 10500. That's a lot for an average sized plastic Gundam. Consider this: the VF-171EX retailed at 10,290 yen. But I've noticed that high prices for more plastic and less metal is starting to be the trend. So I'm kind of wondering if Bandai is really struggling to make a profit these days? Their plastic figure lines prices are being priced at twice as much or more as what we would have seen five years ago, and that's not even considering currency exchange changes. But there has been far less figures being released and they haven't had near as many really big hits in the last couple of years. I just hope some of their practices aren't sinking their own boat, such as the Tamashii Nations exclusives that always over priced, hard to get, and usually should have been included with the main figure to begin with.

To be fair, The Robot Damashii exclusive Gundam Xi is going to be 18cm tall, which is about 5cm taller than your average Robot Damashii Gundam. Also based on some magazine scans that I saw, a lot of effort and detail is going into it, and being exclusive it kind of justify its exclusive price. Then again everything is going up in price, so it does not help us either.

But still, 18cm is only 7 inches, so it is a little bigger but that still seems expensive to me. And having figures like this as exclusives doesn't really mean anything other than an excuse to charge more money. None of those Tamashii nations figures are limited editons, so the only differences it makes for us is that we have to buy it from vendor A vs. vendor B and pay an extra 3000 yen for the vendor's trouble.
But I do understand Bandai's need to make a profit and maybe this is what it takes to keep them going, but I still feel like they might be pushing themselves away with their production runs, exclusives and pricing choices.

Its Exclusive. Plain and simple. Even the Damashii Byalant Custom is not cheap, and it is a lot bigger than most Unicorn Damashii releases. But when you compare to other stuff, its still not all that big of a figure. How about the VF-171EX Armor parts? No mechanics whatsoever and barely any moving parts. Not even much plastic there. Yet it cost more than a fully articulated Gundam with plenty accessories. So as long as they have the "Exclusive" label, they can pretty much charge however they want. Sad, but what can we do?
