Any idea on where to get the best price on this at the moment?
On another note I was checking Ebay and it seems Fewture will be releasing another repaint of God Phoenix and New God Phoenix with a red toned paint job and add on Vinyl flames.

I was thinking of going with HLJ if they even had any left. BBTS was too expensive. Shipping is not going to be cheap I am sure...

Might also want to give amiami a check and see if the price is good. On a side note, i notice the 2 new preorders of the god phoenix, but i will most probably give them a miss, prefer original paintwork

Got my Gatcha Spartan! So awesome, it's been a while since I've gotten something so heavy. Combination was a bit tricky at first, lots of cool tricks there. Only downside: got hit by customs... $50. Ugh.

Ugh. Totally agreed...it's quite heavy and I found it a bit tricky to combine G3 & G4 at first. Overall, I am quite happy with this chogokin.

This toy is a MASTERPIECE. I'm surprised there hasn't been more responses to this, despite the price and Fewture's underwhelming track record with the Gatch vehicles. It's terrific (and relatively durable) hand candy of the highest gokin order, heavy as hell but amazingly engineered for what you'd think would be a simple design. It's the strongest throwback to the classic vintage gattai'ing toys of yesteryear that I've seen in a new toy, at least since Bandai's Hurricanegar chogokins (Senpuujin and Gouraijin).
I would deem it an easy Toy of the Year candidate if I wasn't sure how much of its mechanics and design were copped from the original Popy DX.

The fact that it is not drawing as big an audience has more to do with the design and appeal. Compared to the first series God Phoenix design, the Gatchaspartan pales in comparison.

Beautiful pics of a beautiful toy. Love the old school gattai design. Brings me back to when I was a kid staring at Popy toys in a display cabinet at some Japanese hobby toy store. I kind of miss the missile shooting gimmick that was so commonplace back then.

The real reason its not getting any love,is this 3rd series was never shown in the USA,so americans here dont care about it,unless you collect vintage. The high price hampers it even more.If anything teh original Phoenix would be the most popular here. The new God phoenix from Gotchaman 2 was never shown here either. We remember Battle of the Planets,so no nostalgia for this piece,I think its very cool, and am thinking of getting it!.

Actually, a number of episodes of Gatchaman Fighter was shown in the US as part of the Gatchaman 2 convert.... Saban's "Eagle Riders". Inexplicably, Count Egoblosser (the chief villain in Fighter) was re-christianed "Happy Boy" in the show. Needless to say, there isn't much nostalgia or even general overall memory of "Eagle Riders" here in the States. It kind of came and went without a blip.
I'd LOVE to see a side by side comparison between the Popy DX Vintage and this... at first glance, they seem pretty comparable except for of course, the lack of missile firing gimmicks in Fewture's. But for some reason, I suspect the Fewture one actually might actually be slightly larger and has more die-cast content?

Harvey, I bought mine a couple of months back and hadn't opened it till I read your post. Indeed it is a masterpiece and every component has a nice amount of diecast. It seems to be more more durable than previous Fewture releases and the ships connect very well. I have to say if I knew it was this good I would have bought two when it was on sale on HLJ. It's a keeper!

Guys I am possibly buying a gatcha spartan from Japan today or tomorrow, but may hold off.
The price is really great compared to eBay, BBTS, or the other overseas vendors and toy is new (price is comparable to yahoo Japan opening bids), but they are telling me it is going to be $68 for EMS shipping.
How much did you guys pay for shipping? I know the toy is heavy. How much did you pay for the toy itself?

HLJ charged me 4980 Yen (about $49 at the time) for SAL shipping and the toy itself was 25543 Yen, so everything totaled a bit over $300 after all was said and done. But the toy and the box is sizable and weighty and it WAS WORTH IT.

Oh I know it is worth it. I held off at release because I didn't want to be at $350-400 shipped.
I am going to be at $278 shipped with insurance. I was hoping to be at $250.
Feel free to keep chiming in guys. Make me pull the trigger lol.

$278 shipped with insurance is the best price I've seen anywhere for this thing. I'd say go for it!
