I'm thinking the blue looks good but it washes out pictures, white would help but the contrast with the lettering was to strong. If we could get something like a cool white with dark grey writing and a black background would have a nice graduation in contrast. Either way I'm happy, change is good and this is a work in progress.

I also like Sample 1. I am used to the Old black background, but will welcome the new change. Just need to make the highlighted stuff nice and readable. The current in progress blue has highlighted text in a dark blue, which is almost indistinguishable from all the black text. So I would suggest going for the Sample 1 look, and has some small color tweaks on anything highlighted to be aesthetically matchy, yet easy on the eye and readable. Or another option can be using Sample 1 as the base, but instead of having a light grey/blue on the blocks, we use a darker grey or blue grey, like below. So we still get a dark background with light text like the old, but not 100% black and look sleaker and use some easy on the eye colors for anything needs to be highlighted.

Mpchi example works well. Is this complicated if main categories could have a banner ( picture + logo text) ? Then RJ forum will start having its own graphic chart... Admins can count on me to propose something (submited to members vote)...

Are you feeling gray and blue?

But really. can we draw inspiration from our robots - you know primary colors. bright reds, dark blues, metallic, sun yellow, etc - this current light-blue/gray color scheme is really depressing. Would you see this on a SOC or Transformer box?

Did not care for the old one, but I preferred it to this. This has actually chased me away from the forums, though I am not sure why. It almost feels like its not loading everything its supposed. I think Mpchi's example works.

Old is good, but then again I am usually against change. Somehow the blue background and black font is harder on my eyes.

This combo sky blue + beige is.... nnnggghhhh... Please, IMO, grayscale will be more "quiet" and comfortable for reading post and put pictures we post. Here is an example : s10.postimage.org/c2ebe2xuh/Boards_test_01.jpgMaybe some colored frames to identify topics could help... Or coloured banners : (here I just use the font from RJ website) (take these pictures just as examples)

I Like MPChi's version too, though it would look nice if it was more robot color themed, as mentioned previously. The background is a little too bright in my opinion. Just my two cents. Regardless, this is still my favorite robot and figure site.

Today was my first time visiting the website. I have been using my phone exclusively the past few days to sign on I guess. I agree that darker color is friendlier to the eye, but a less colorful page is probably more work place friendly.

Using an iPad late at night or first thing in the morning is like an eye-piercing exercise with these colors

For the love of god, please pick something before I go BLIND! LOL. I did pick these colors. So is the consensus that even though these colors are light (some had this preference), DARK is the overall preference. In other words, go back to dark?

When I posted my screenshots of the light white theme you had used in the other thread, I can tell you it was almost perfectly matched to the proboards mobile app on my iPhone and iPad. It was like everything was one integrated site and it was nice.
Ed I will try to email you some screenshots of the proboards mobile app on my lunch break so you can see the blue and white combo they use. I prefer the all white, but nothing as dark as the old navy and yellow.
I think we can definitely find a good balance that makes RJ still stand out on its own. Good work so far, looking forward to what else you have planned.

Ed, I just got to my lunch break so I actually sent you some extended screenshots of the app by email, basically of the whole process from login to users online. Check them out when you have a minute.
