Hi
I might be being stupid but what was the reason for transformers taking on the shape of dinosaurs? They mimicked vehicles so they could operate unnoticed on earth but seeing as dinosaurs have been extinct for a while surely they would stick out like sore thumbs on earth?
Just curious that's all. Thanks Steve

The comic reason (i think, maybe cartoon) made the most sense: The ARK crashed on earth MILLIONS of years ago. It sent out a first survey party, of 5 scouts/general. The dominant form THEN was dinosaurs, so they took that form, went out, and got stuck in tar, and didn't return. (How SWOOP got stuck, i am clueless).

the transformers is a robotic race that needs to blend in with the planet they land on. since the transformers landed on our planet millions of years ago. they need to blend in with the dinosaurs present at that time.
falconhood is right about this.
maybe swoop is trying to rescue grimlock and because grimlock is dumb. maybe he pulled swoop along with him in the tar.

of course the REAL reason (please dont throw eggs at me) why there were TF dinosaurs is because the toys were already available in the form of diaclone dinosaur robo and so takara/hasbro used them along with many other diaclones for gen 1. Im mighty impressed that the cartoon assumed genesis wasnt true otherwise we might well have horse cart TF in the cartoon as well. (throw eggs if you want, they wont stick)

Okay in the cartoons the volcano that the Ark crashed into suddenly became active, the Autobots later discovered dino bones and Spike thought they would give the Autobots some much needed muscle so Prime OKed their construction. Later Prime thought the Dinobots were such good creations he ordered two more built in which Spike and Chip chose the dino modes.
In the comics depending on which company you choose the Dinobots were part of the initial Ark crew or came before and upon arrival in pre-historic Earth they were re-formatted with Dinosaurs as a alternate modes.

There were "Dinobots" in the Beast Machines toyline but they never showed up in the show and they weren't the dinobots from G1. What does get interesting is if you read the some of the Beast Wars comics and the Transformers Universe (?) ones there is some speculation that Grimlock does get re-formatted as a Maximal and the Grimlock from the Beast Wars line is the same one from G1.

i thot he was referring to the CARTOON, because the toys were actually very cool, especially Cheetor and Black Arachnia and Rattrap, and the other non-show characters.

i only liked the mechanical transformers. i bought a few of those toys but as much as possible. i stay away from transformers who transforms into organic or animals.
but sometimes. like the new classic grimlock. i would consider buying and liking them. depending on how it struck me when i see the toys personally.
;D

i didn't like furry animals of Beast Wars turning into robots, or having a kidney be a gun...gross. But when Transmetals came about, i accepted them, because they were MACHINe ANIMALS. or TM2, were cyborgish. but mechanical animals are awesome. i always thot...when a furry animal transforms...it's too much like when i was a kid and forgot to wear underwear, and zipping my fly up.

LOL Falcon you are too much, a kidney into a gun...that put tears in my eyes!

no, what i meant was...i don't like the toys from the first year of Beast wars...but i like TRANSMETALS. i also LOVE dinobots, voltron, predaking, and etc....that is what i meant by mechanical beasts. come to think of it, only beast wars and beast machines have animal-robots with fur....unless there was something i wasn't paying attention to in Energon/Armada/Cybertron...oh, and RID was just repaints. i LOVE Gigatron, or whatever the american name of him was...i watched and BOUGHT the japanese versions a year before i even KNEW it was coming to the USA...darn, i could have saved a ton of money...Fire Convoy was $50 for me plus shipping, and God Magnus $50 too, Mach Alert $18. BUT, my Fire Convoy speaks japanese, not english., so that is cool.

I always favored the Dino-bots over a lot of the other Autobots, but I never did have them as toys. Plus, finding them in good condition is a small task.

I wonder if Takara will ever re-issue the Dinobots. I really want a re-issue of Grimlock.

I wonder if Takara will ever re-issue the Dinobots. I really want a re-issue of Grimlock. I've been informed that the Chinese company producing quality KOs of Prime, the cassettes, and Swoop, will be releasing the rest of the Dinobots next. I know there were some QC issues with the first Swoop releases, but the rest were pretty quality, so I'm psyched by this news.
