How often do you stand at the TF section in target and then notice another guy who appears round the corner and then sheepishly starts eyeing them too? YUP, you just know hes a freakin geek.
I did have one guy say 'so you into starwars or transformers?' and we did start up a quick conversation, heck that guys probably on this board.
Anyway it is a fun knowing you have a slight secret to hide (id hate to have a real secret, that must be tough) and indulge in the toy isle pretending you want a toy for your little nephew!! (I only do that when i know im driving the assistant nuts by asking them to check in the back 'because I want the blue car which is NOT the same as the red plane despite both being transformers' youve been there i know)

I only check out the TF section when it's empty. It always takes me less than 30 secs since I have what I want in mind. Fast in, fast out.

I'm not embarrassed by it - I've run into fellow geeks at ToysRUs before. We don't talk to each other though. We just sort of run our eyes up and down the pegs. Personally I don't buy many Transformers so for me, I'm just sort of window-shopping to see what's there.
I'll tell you a story about what I thought was frickin' weird tho... at the local comics/anime shop I was minding my own business and this other dude comes in asking for anime... the bloody and violent variety. And he says Kite was okay but Mezzo Forte was too "tame" (I'm guessing he watched the series, because I don't see how the OVA Mezzo Forte was "tame" by any standard as it featured decapitation and dismemberment, rape...etc). And THAT was an incident I was embarrassed to be a part of... and no, I didn't make any suggestions ...I just left.

to be honest im quite open and happy about my collection which is quite meagre, about 190 toys:60:30:10 microman/Tf/henshin cyborg but when im flipping through the pegs i only feel slightly ashamed that im spending valuable energy looking for toys when i really should be doing something more important!! actually I also tend to windowshop more than actually buy!

I've come across a few fellow collectors in the toy aisles over the years, and really the connections were hit or miss. A couple of times they were cool and we talked toys and TFs for a little while, so I mentioned my username on some of the boards and such. But then I never saw them online afterward. Other times the other guy was kinda stand off-ish, kinda giving me the impression they'd rather stay to themselves and not be bothered. Kinda sad really. I later imagined, maybe they didn't believe I was for real, or maybe a "poser", or maybe they hadn't become comfortable with talking about our strange and unique obsession with others yet. I think at some point early on, we all probably have gone through that already. Oh well, I don't mind. If I see an adult person sorting through TFs, I still try to strike up a conversation. A positive connection is always worth the try.

I know the feeling. A bunch of people whom came and saw my display at the fair you could tell that they remembered the good times, but didn't want to talk about it much. They may not be a collector, but one can always have a conversation about something both parties involved liked. However, on the stand offish ones, I let them be.
Still can't understand how M&M's beat me. LOL

Oh god, this happens to me all the time. One time there were two guys in the toy aisle talking full bore about transformers this and that and I jumped in and said the only 80s tf I didn't have was Skylinx and Trypticon and one of them looked me up and down and said "Yeah, whatever." Then came into my and M8zingers store three weeks later trying to buy boxed G1s. I was tempted to refuse service but they spent up big so...hey.
