Now the classics line appears done what are fans thoughts on them? Has the novelty worn off, are they better than you thought? have they grown on you more? Are they really that good? what would have made any given toy better?
The ones i didnt buy: starscream (i didnt like the colour scheme), optimus prime (i way prefer the UM colour scheme so stuck with that), cliffjumper (already got BB) and megatron, i really didnt like that toy much.
I feel these are great looking toys and when placed next to G1 classics like prowl they still hold their own. Ironically (i thought it was a must have) ive come to find jetfire a bit dull, theres too little of a transformation going on and hes overly complex. I didnt really like grimlock to begin with but his design has grown on me but im still not sure about his feet. I wasnt goint to bother with mirage as he looked like a gangly egor but got it on clearance and found an excellent toy which can be posed to great effect, i like to keep the air dam in place which gives him a more solid look.
What a shame the line seems to have stopped. Its an almost perfect concept and execution, great looking, fun transformations, solid construction, probably appeal to kids by design alone (im not sure the movie toys would without the movie tie in) and appeal to old fans. What i do like is that with the new posability of these old favourites the bots can mimic the vintage style artwork with their dynamic poses. I loved the way the art work used a lot of licence to turn those bricks into real characters.
My favourite classic? Possibly skywarp, great colour scheme and awesome bot and plane and a satisfying transformation. I think the OP mould could have been improved by dealing with that forearm kibble and the SS/SW mould by being able to hide the nose cone better at the back of the head.
