New Products or Product line always gets to be Optimus Prime. Or Bumblebee but mostly Optimus Prime.
Be it a transforming hat, shoe, fj cruiser. I get it that Optimus Prime is the number one face of transformers. But doesn't it O little faith in their product or the rest of the transformers characters that they dont have faith in the product if its not Prime as the "head" of their product. They arent even using Prime's colours in some of them.

It's because optimus prime and bumblebee have always been and always will be the two most popular, recognizable and marketable characters to children and transformers fans in general. No way around it. They can just make the money.
Believe me, I'm a diehard TF fan since childhood and I wish it wasn't that way. I always ask other TF people, "Really, tell me how you can not be pissed everytime you add another prime or bumblebee to your collection?".

Well, we can say that Prime is the flagship of the transformers franchise. It's kinda like how Bandai always want to stick a new version of Mazinger or RX-78 Gundam in each of their new robot toy line.

I'm sorry. I'm just sick of seeing endless parades of unsold primes and bumblebees on store shelves. There is a wealth of characters waiting to be immortalized in toy form. Please PLEASE go easy on prime and bee.

Look at it this way would Takara put out a Transformers line WITHOUT Prime and Bumblebee in it and why? If you can answer that then you have your answer, they can cut back on the amount produced but which marketing exec is gonna tell the head of Transformers development that they shouldn't make so many Primes and BB's and potentially lose sales. In mass market toys it's better to overproduce good sellers then under-produce and lose potential customers.

This isn't always true. Remember the Binaltech line anyone? Who did they start with? Right, Smokescreen. And to date there is no Bubblebee in that line. Pretty sure there is also no Bubblebee Beastwar figures also. And almost all of the unofficial 3rd party lines didn't start their line with Optimus or Bee. Masterpiece Bubblebee still has not been announce or there is still no official word from Takara of it yet.
Thing is, official lines start with Optimus and Bubblebee because we have to remember that these are first and foremost toys made for little boys. It is marketed and supposed to be for them 5 years old. It is never intended to be a collectors item. New generation of kids arise every single day, month and year. Each generation gets their version of their Prime from cartoons they grow up with. That's why each line starts with Prime and Bubblebee.
