I still like my Yamato GR (missiles version), but it didn't age too well. Some of the PVC missiles started to get quite loose and want to fall off. The ratchets are quite wobbly too, though it can balance well enough. Mine particularly has a funny neck that always want to look up (as if it has a spring, but doesn't after I opened it up). But that is just mine, pretty sure. Got it very cheap back then ($40) so no complaints really.

This figure is pretty awesome as is and needs no update. mpchi, sorry to hear of your issues. I have two (one of each variety, though I combined the parts to form a single maxed out figure), and they still hold up well. So what exactly is he doing in this link? Too lazy to translate all the captions.

Looks like the dude is taking it apart fixing some joints, and give it a full on custom paint job. Kind of like the dark rivet airbrush shading Bandai did on the SOC T-28 (pot belly one).

Someone had actually posted images from it before..but they were small. This is the full on step. My browser translates the italian right away so I did not even notice it was in an extra language.

Cool mod post. Thanks Blitz and Baron. 1: So when making a ball joint mod. I need to drill a tinniest hole on the cut ball and the where ball used to connect so "the papar clip metal rod post" can go in...right? Wouldn't drilling a straight hole in a ball hard if not impossible? 2: What kinda glue should I use to glue the whole thing back? That's kinda scary surgery especially breaking off ball off the ball joint hinge part....

But that is just mine, pretty sure. Got it very cheap back then ($40) so no complaints really. The head kinda tilts back ("looking up") because most of the weight is in the back of the head, the way it's shaped far back there. So, if the neck joint is loose, the GR will of course "look Up". lol The neck on mine is pretty tight, so, I never had that problem. I have the Bazooka version... I bought it from RJ member Magnemo, as my first gokin as soon as I joined RJ back in late 2006. I paid $10 (plus shipping) for mine because it was broken at the hip joint and a shoulder joint lost a ratchet pin. I replaced the broken hip joint with a nut and bolt and a couple of rubber gaskets; then I took a piece of plastic model sprue and made a ratchet pin for the spring inside the shoulder joint... this was my first robot toy repair job at RJ since I joined. The vinyl specimen standing next to him is a 10" unmarked (no manufacturer brand imprint) bootleg that I scored from eBay roughly around the same time era after I bought the Yamato GR. Both figures are now at my mom's house. zozo-mag

That bootleg is a mini version of a Marmit piece that was originally 23". Weird seeing a jumbo come in a baggy with a header card.

Thanks for confirming that info, Choryujin! Bowhntr mentioned it to me a few days ago as we were looking at a Marmit online I forgot where, but we weren't sure between my bootie** and the Marmit. (** I'm too lazy to type out the word Bootleg, so I just say "bootie". lol) zozo-mag

No problem It's a pretty cool looking piece but all that ones I've seen have some cosmetic problems (paint, oddly bent arms/legs/head/etc). I've seen them go from between $90 - 150 depending on packaging and condition.

I think Yamato have did a very good job on him, I still like him a lot, great sculpt, good proportion with heavy diecast content. However its articulation is kind of weak compare with modern SRC figures.

The articulation is somewhat limited, so it's not like this figure can perform any crazy Revoltech Yoga poses. Given the Giant Robo's physical design in the anime, I think Yamato was trying to preserve Giant Robo's structural integrity for best physical appearance in collectors grade display form rather than sacrifice it to typically rough handling as a mere toy action-figure. zozo-mag

Oh well. Still, People are smart. they can do amazing things when they try~
