World's Enemy Period. It is World Event Production, and it owns Golion, Dairugger (both known as Voltron), and other intellectual properties.

Damn! The site is down. I know we can still contact them through their Facebook (conversation is still active but is the page gone?). I just hope they will include all accessories with the robot cuz Gosh says something about an extra sword bonus 'n stuff. Is it safe to pre order it though? When does the pre order ends?

I'm pretty sure WEP knew this was coming for awhile. All they did was wait for a actual production sample be revealed and prove that this toy is past the prototype phase and not a pipe dream. Now it's up to see how Madtoys deals with it if the site was closed because of WEP in the first place.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to periodically Google phrases such as "bootleg voltron." WEP almost certainly knew about this item for a long while.
I don't fault WEP at all for protecting its intellectual property.

True as a company or in fact any company has the right and should protect their IP. On the other hand as fans and consumers of said IP if the IP holder does not produce product that many consumers want then shouldn't the consumer have a choice in buying something else. I can see it from both sides especially since I've been in the 3rd Party Transformer scene. I don't think many if any fans would not buy this figure if it was released as a "official" product with WEP getting their share of the profits. But with the lack of official quality toys fans will look somewhere else.

I think they will find a way to sell.
Hell, Mad Toys could sell them here on the Buy/sell/trade forum through paypal and nobody could do much of anything. I know when Harmony Gold tried to shut down sites selling yamato macross stuff, some retailers just sold their stock on forums.

Actually tony is a member here so you can leave him a message , however i dont think you will get an answer because they are busy with this new issue preorder bonus is going to close on the 20th of this month i didnt preorder one too along with some members but if they open the door i will preorder in a heart beat because this is so far the ultimate Golion True as a company or in fact any company has the right and should protect their IP. Legally bro they are on the right and the safe side, but socially what they are doing isn't ethical at all, they are just holding Golion with nothing new and not giving licenses to people who want to make for the fans, they are just giving it to Toynami who was and still just milking it with the same figure for 10 years TEN YEARS, they think we are children who will buy any thing that have Voltron on it and as a collectors this is an insult, im not trying to compare but when bandai do an anniversary version they at the very least change the colors, in my opinion they want make Golion American made ONLY did they forgot this guy is Japanese and why they are holding it like this ? some fans started to forget about Bismarck because there is absolutely nothing for him any where EDIT: name and email removed, beginners mistake

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to periodically Google phrases such as "bootleg voltron." Except this wasn't a bootleg... It's unofficial which by definition makes it a bootleg. It's a bootleg glion/vtron. What you are confused with is this isn't a KO, knockoff. Bootleg most of the time are new mold, sculpt and design. Knockoff is taking an existing sculpt and mold and replicating it. Example: MMC Hexatron is a bootleg Sixshot. CloneDroid is making KO versions of MMC Hexatron even though they are changing some of the parts, it's still a Knockoff cause they are recasting and replicating it. Just like IGears Mini MP-01 is a Knockoff and not a bootleg because all they did was scaled down the original MP Optimus. They still replicated and reproduce and existing mold/design.

I can understand WEP wants to protect its interests in the rights it owns, but the point with this figure is it's a non-US market release.
I'm surprised the site has been pulled down. Since it's not being offered for sale explicitly in the US - nor was it intended to, it shouldn't be of much concern to WEP.
When we have to go to a company or another vendor in another country to get a product that's not going to be sold here, that's our business. Just like when we choose to import an Italian or asian market only figure, whether it's a bootleg, fan made, or full production toy (ie takara) it shouldn't be a problem.
This toy should have only been a problem if an American toy retailer wanted to advertise/import/sell it here (as it was with the other recent combining figure). That's not the case though, so I don't think it will be an issue.

I agree with what you are saying but someone already mentioned that this bot is the bread and butter for them. Any attempt to make any type of money without giving them a majority cut is trouble. I don't know if this situation will turned out like Miracles MP where the units have been produced but moving the units are hard cause everything has to be sold secretly, on eBay etc... It took a while before some major of shore etailers to sell them without fear. Heck even toyarena started to sell them after a while. I believe these have been produced, just have to wait to see who's selling them in the coming months.

KO/Bootleg are copying original designs. What MT and 3rd party transformers do is look at original designs and make their own based from it. Or they may look to comic or other sources and produce those versions which have never been touched in toy form. Point is the product in question wasn't a KO/bootleg it was a re imagining of an existing product.
