How can I remove odor (cigarette smell) off a Chogokin figure? Bought it off Ebay. Any advise would be great!
Thanks in advance.

Is that a homemade concoction? Do you spray on a paper towl or something and wipe it down?

I had the same issue several months ago with an immaculate G1 Jetfire I purchased through eBay. Fantastic condition, but had a horrible/intolerable smoke smell. I sealed the figure in a gallon Ziplock freezer bag with 2 dryer sheets for several days. The item will smell with excessive dryer sheet fragrance once removed, but will gradually fade to no smell. Worked like a charm for me...

You can google vinegar+tobacco-odor since there are many ways/techniques to it.
What I usually do may or may not work for you, so proceed at your own:
- Mix warm water with distilled or white vinegar in a spray bottle. 50/50 ratio. Pure vinegar is nauseating. - Use gloves if you don't want vinegar smell on your hands. - Use non-scratching wipe-material such as a microfiber cloth. Paper towel is ok, but be careful since it may induce scratching and stuff. - You can either do some small wipes, - or cover the figure with squeezed vinegar'ed cloth and leave it overnight. - Your figure will smell vinegar-y afterwards, of course, but that's ok since vinegar-smell is not permanent and can be easily removed.
As such, I read baking-soda powder works, too, but I've not done it.

I had same problem from used Saint Taurus from AE. It also had stale food grease odor too along with cig smell... I just wiped it with as much as I can with warm mild soap solution and i just air it out. It took about two weeks. Another thing u can do is buy a pack of baking powder box thats specifically used for removing fridge odor. Put them togather in bpa free gallon ziplock bag. I personally not use vinegar ....at all.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
nolsoldier: for the "sealing in bag with fabric softner sheets" method. Do I put the sealed bag in the freezer for a few days?
Baron: when wiping with Pledge, only the outer, exposed areas would be sufficient correct? I wouldn't want to have to take apart my gokin (Zambot 3) to perform this.
treatment: thanks for the ingredients. I will google that.

No problem bro! Nope...definitely not in the freezer. Like I said earlier...it worked awesome for me. Plus I considered it the least intrusive method. You can always try more elaborate/extensive methods if it doesn't work for you.

The worst is cigarette smoke on vinyl figures. It seeps into the plastic. With diecast, it should be easier to treat. I've sealed toys (including boxed gokin!) in a ziploc with baking soda with mixed results. Change the baking soda a few times, if necessary. Let us know which you try and what the results were. Thanks.

Apparently placing the item in a sealed container with cat litter also works but you'll have to be patient and maybe change the litter occasionally. I guess this is pretty similar to the baking soda option KingboyD suggested above.

The best remedy for cigarette smoke is oxygen/fresh air. It will remove the smell. If there is any dirt on the toy you can lightly clean it first if you wish.
Literally put the toy and any parts outside in a regular or shady spot, not in direct sunlight.
Just let them sit out for an entire day and then bring the toy inside the house and smell it. If it still has a scent, back outside it goes. It can take as little as 4-8 hours, sometimes it takes a few days.
This also works if your kids buy college textbooks used and they smell like pot or cigarettes.
I have done this for many toys that sellers lied to me about (they were still too valuable to return) and you would never know it if I gave them to you to look at.

I don't know how well this would work with toys but one of our sales reps that smokes a lot uses Ozium spray. I barely notice any smoke smell on him and most of the time I don't smell anything at all.

I barely notice any smoke smell on him and most of the time I don't smell anything at all. I use Ozium in rooms and vintage cars. I don't know how well it would work with toys because you can't be in the room or car (have to close them up) for several hours when using it. So you'd have to seal the toy in something airtight or near airtight.

Thank you all for the helpful advise. I really appreciate it. I've decided to file a claim against the seller since the smell is so unbearable. I felt it was better to not pay for something I wasn't happy with, especially when it was $120 USD.
I will have to try these techniques another time, but I sincerely do appreciate all your kind help.
This community rocks!!
