I know it's really hard to do, but if you could come up with what you think are the top five Soul of Chogokin releases to date are, I would love to see what the consensus is. I have a pretty good idea what they'll be, but maybe you guys will surprise me. Let me just add that I don't have a Voltes V (coming this week) or Gunbuster, so I can't speak to their awesomeness personally, but those are the only two consensus favorites I don't have, but definitely will very soon.. But anyway, I'd have to go with:
#5: GX-43 Daimos.. A lot of it has to do with the character design and color scheme, but I think they did an awesome job updating but also staying true to the original toys design, yet adding in enough anime accurate details to make it pop. Love his weapons too.
#4: GX-27 Gaiking.. Kind of my darkhorse pick.. But man, it's all about that head sculpt and the proportions in the powered up mode. He just stands out compared to the other similarly sized old-school guys.
#3: GX-39 Baikanfu.. This is one of those rare cases where a gimmick is engineered and works so well, and looks so good.. He may not be a fan favorite 70's Super Robot like the others on the list, but he is just way too awesome too ignore.
#2: GX-40 Godmars.. This is the guy that got me into SoC's to begin with. Super Simple, classy design that just pops. All five robots look great. The engineering/combining gimmicks are intuitive and ingenious at the same time. You have to own this guy.
#1: GX-50 Godsigma.. This thing is just plain gorgeous.. The paint, the detailing, the chrome, that awesome chest piece... It all adds up to create the best looking robot in my collection. Even in individual mode, the 3 robots are vintage perfection. This was the first SoC I got (discovered SoC's when I saw a review for Godmars, but this is the first one I got in hand) and it's still the best and still my favorite.
If this was a top ten list, Daitarn 3 Renewal, Ideon, Dioja, GX-01R Mazinger Z, and Daltanious would be somewhere in there as well.
So what do you think guys? If you could only own five, which one's would they be?
