I'm seriously torn between the FansToys Willy and the MakeToys Gun Dog. Argh. Both are the same price and both feature diecast.

The FT looks great and very cartoon accurate but I prefer the MT one. It still has that feeling that Hound transforms into a actual Jeep and has toy elements like MP's usually have, while the FT one looks like a robot with some Jeep designs. Still both are WAY better then the TFC one lol.

Maketoys for me as well. Contrary to what a lot of people say, I love the design of Gundog's feet. A transforming robot shouldn't have to hide all of his part mode bits - that's part of their character. I originally thought that I would be leaning heavily on the 2Y version, but I can say that the 2N deco is equally good! Did you guys notice that the 2Y/G1 version has a jerry can on one of its feet?

I think if Gundog's face was more like FT's it would be an easy decision for me as I love Maketoys' stuff. Unfortunately I just can't like that face - it kills it for me. Hopefully FT's offering turns out to be just as nice since their face sculpt looks a bit nicer to me.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll mull it over. Quick question for the MakeToys Gun Dog versions: Aside from the shade of green, the pine green version has a different face compared to the lighter-colored one, right? Or do I just need new glasses.

I don't remember the face being this bad on the uncolored prototypes for GunDog. It's got to be bad angles and color. The Fantoys version of Hound, I didn't like the proportion. Funny and kind of ironic because most collectors dislike the face sculpts on a lot of FT previous releases. I'm gonna go with the cartoon colors over the type 61 version.
Also, anyone know any more information between FT and Cloud9? Insiders from FT claims that Cloud9 ripped off their QuakeWave and it's just a retooling of parts to make their QuakeBlast to look different. They claimed that the transformation is the same.

Also, anyone know any more information between FT and Cloud9? Insiders from FT claims that Cloud9 ripped off their QuakeWave and it's just a retooling of parts to make their QuakeBlast to look different. They claimed that the transformation is the same. From looking at Quakeblast (and having owned Quakewave), I'd say that the same transformation is a pretty easy claim to make. Then again, Quakewave's transformation was very, very simple; fold the head into the body, swing the arms up over the head, collapse the legs and waist, rotate the legs and fold the side panels down to be the gun handle. Take off his backpack and put it over his forearms to be the front of the gun and fold out the sight and you're done. Frankly it's a perfectly sensible way to make a Shockwave figure. Even if it's copying the basic transformation (and big deal. How many transformer figures involve a vehicle standing up with arms coming out of the doors, a head out of the hood, and legs out from under the rear of the car?), Quakeblast is still sculpted from the ground up as a unique figure with unique sculpting, and Cloud9 have implemented a bunch of improvements, like lighting for the chest as well as a more solidly designed optional gunbarrel part, better "curved" legs, and a generally more dynamic look than the fairly boxy Quakewave.

quinjester, precisely what I was thinking, in that it's differently sculpted. But the rumor is that FT will stop distribution to any retailer that is selling Quakeblast. This was somewhat confirmed by KapowToys FB posting, a retailer in the UK and if I remember correctly, ToyDojo and TCP also seemed to have pulled the PO off for their webpage for QuakeBlast. FT has not done this in the past and accepted competition among the other 3P groups. From what I've read, yeah, FT is saying that Cloud9 is Knocking off their engineering. Yes there are improvement and they added the lights. If I understand the situation correctly, FT seems to imply that all Cloud9 is doing is reverse engineer thier Quakewave and retool/remold the parts to look different, i.e. curve legs etc... FT didn't seem to mind going up against Gigapower with the Dinobots, or MMC and Badecube on the Insecticon. They didn't mind competition from MT when it comes to Hound because the transformations and the engineering on those competition pieces of the same character were totally different.

So, I canned my PO for the Fans Toys version and instead ordered the MakeToys Gun Dog. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts! With the way pre-production samples tend to get tossed around for lots of the manufacturers, it's always kind of an exciting and rare time when Maketoys releases something because typically nobody knows what it will be like until it's released to everyone.

So, I canned my PO for the Fans Toys version and instead ordered the MakeToys Gun Dog. So which version did you go for? I find it really hard in making an arbitrary G1 or toon deco for this guy! I guess I prefer the G1 deco better, but the toon, with the yellow striping is really not bad (and apparently all version come with jerry cans on their foot)! Bigger picture of the promotion flyer, and what seem to be new photographs. I love how they blend with the existing Takara MPs!
