I've had this guy on order for awhile and he finally showed up today. I figured I would post a few quick (and yes I know lousy) Cell phone snaps of him just because there are so few pictures of the SRC Dai Guard variant/other robot out there. And none that show the major differences from Dai Guard. And I have not been able to find any written or video reviews of this one.
The figure itself is a nicely done military matte green finish with silver and gunmetal. Obviously going along with Kokubougar's Military nature. He is the Army's version of the civilian Dai Guard robot. No flashy merchandizable colors for him. The major differences from Dai Guard include a new head sculpt. The wings differ in shape. The face is more somber without DG's kind of goody Samurai look. And the head has the Gundam style machine guns on the temples. Also changed are the large wings on the colarbone. In Dai Guard these are long sharp gold wings, noted for interfearing with head movement. On KKBG they are simple squared off gunmetal colored ridges. So KKBG has much greater head movement. Similarly the large sharp edged gold blades on the front of Dai Guards shins have been reduced to more utilitarian squared off ridges. Similarly Kokubougars Forearm ridges are more squared off than Gai Guards, and lack the little gold wing. But as a bonus they can be replaced with missile launchers (non firing, sigh)
Where Kokubougar differs most is in accessories. First up, he is nowhere near as well equipped as Dai Guard. No net hand and forearm etc. The big difference, the reason for the completest Dai Guard fan to get this figure is KKBG's big gun. He comes with the first generation "Knot Buster" instead of Dai Guard's "Knot Punisher/Great Knot Punisher". The Knot Buster is a smaller and less complex piece than the Knot Punisher. Just the main weapon and 2 claw tips. One with the shaft deployed. But it is gorgeous in silver and gunmetal. Other Kokubougar accessories include 4 hands. 2 open and 2 fists. 2 forearm rocket launchers and a drill arm that is the same as Dai Guards.
I will take some real photos in a few days once I have a chance to setup a white stage and the good camera. Overall Kokubougar is a great little SRC. His subdued greens stand out in a crowd of mainly bright read robots. He makes Dai Guard seem a little less lonely when standing alongside the vast Mazinger, Getter and Super Sentai families on a display shelf. Well worth the effort of hunting one down if you can find him at a decent price.
