I am rather new to the lore of Getter Robo but that giant dragon mecha that Getter G mounts on;isn't that an Atlantean super weapon that teams up with the Getter Team for one battle and then goes off into the cosmos never to be seen again?

That is not a Getter G mounted on. Its Shin Getter Dragon appeared in Shin Getter Robo Armageddon anime show from the late 90s, the most powerful form of Getter in that show towards the end, and a whole lot bigger than your normal Getters (like the size of a battleship). Shin Getter 1 is the size of less than half of the dragon head, and team up with Shin Dragon by riding the Dragon head. The design of the dragon part of Shin Dragon is based on a dragon character (look almost the same without the add on humanoid robot torso) showed up in the Getter comics back in the days. Animators use that as the inspiration to design the odd looking Shin Dragon. Shin Dragon also has the other 2 forms, Shin Liger and Shin Poseidon. They look worse and looks like a bucket/barrel with a robot head and limbs stuck onto it LOL. Kind of comical looking.

Ken Ishikawa's manga, the original anime and the OVA reboots by Go Nagai.

Actually, its more confusing than you think, as there are more than one continuity just within manga, depends on which version it was, and there are quite a few. They often times take parts of the older events, but went with a re-written new story as they go, especially when Shin Getter start appearing in Getter Robo Go, then Shin has its own spin-off mangas don by Ken. The anime OVAs from 90s and 2000s has their own timeline and origins, but has some shared main events.

The getter on top of the Dragon looks like it came out of a gumball machine.

Has anyone actually seen a Getter Arc in the wild for sale? I'm just curious? CollectionDX got a review unit last year. But I have not seen any since. I was tempted to hunt one down, but the price seems way too high for what it is.

Anyone get their hands on the Getter Arc? - thoughts? CollectionDX seems to dig it, but would be good to hear from others too. At $170 US, it's kinda hard to drop the cash without further positive insight from others, though it seems it hasn't hit home (stylistically), with people here?

Seems not too many care about this release, and info is thin for interested parties...here are my quick thoughts. Nutshell: Bought it, dig it; looks fantastic on display and QC is excellent - ain't no Bandai though; more Artstorm I'd say. Cons: Somewhat dated articulation (of no concern to me). Silver paint aps are kinda underwhelming, needs some pearl or stronger metallic finish (might fix this myself). Not much Gokin, although more than the average SRC. Light-up eyes gimmick greatly inhibits head articulation. Pros: Solid build, feels kinda old-school in a way, Aoshima vibes - me likey. Satisfying scale approx 8 1/2 inches tall. Nice overall sculpting with sharp head sculpt. Refreshing super robot design in lieu of usual Getter releases. 'Getter Energy' "veins" on body look ace. Those back spears look awesome and can be spun 360. Wicked-looking painted fingernails. Weapons are nice and sharp with no warping. Clean paint aps throughout. Light-up eyes (cool, not interested personally). Nice box art & inserted mini poster. Appropriate use of pearlescent red on shoulders & knees. Price is fair. Wrap-up: The design of Getter Arc really grows on you once in-hand. Nothing special otherwise, it's a competent release that simply looks killer. Unbiased score 7/10, biased score 9/10 - because I love the aesthetic : ) Snaps of mine on display: www.flickr.com/photos/49660795@N05/23852271988/in/dateposted-public/lightbox/www.flickr.com/photos/49660795@N05/37777592422/in/dateposted-public/lightbox/

Looks great. A Very handsome display piece. Glad you think so : ) It's a cool design that isn't getting love in the western market, so I though a super quick rundown was in order.

I like him! A friend had the idea to put this on display with SRC because Arc is supposed to be a lot larger than Shin Getter. I wish this piece was even bigger. I'd like a Getter Arc that was about 12" tall; that would be near perfect scale for displaying with SRC Shin Getter.
