I started chogokin collecting October-2016 and knew absolutely nothing about modern mecha collectibles. Been busy collecting other collectible lines past 35 years. I didn't know where to start and overwhelmed.
I like to hear stories from veteran collectors about chogokin controversies, short shipped items and hot pricey collectibles.
I've read and watched countless reviews and there are snippets about stories like GX-04 UFO set, Metal Works Dairugger(quality issues/shipping) and Gunbuster(original GX-34) soar into high prices when it was released.I'm caught up with my collecting but like to hear stories still. I guess it's same way when I meet up with old collector friends and we laugh about certain hot items back then from other toy lines.
Any stories I should know about? thanks

Was there certain items short shipped or not rereleased? That cause an uproar with the collecting community?
I heard the GX-04s set go for over $500.00 back then. I went to collector show and a guy was still asking for that price. But heard on review it was rereleased few times to satisfy Collector demand. That type stuff interest me for some reason so I know history of it.

The GX-04S was not that expensive, it was around 300$ if I remember right. The exchange rate at the time, CDN/US/YEN was much better for the customer. I remember a local store imported it and was selling the GX-04S fro 750$ CDN. It was the double I paid for, including shipping.
The price was higher in the US because at the time they were no retailer in the US. HLJ was young, and it was the first time ever I was buying something from Japan.....

Well, the high-pricing on SOCs nowadays (and even back in the day) were due almost entirely to unscrupulous scalpers. Both overseas and local scalpers. Fwiw, GX-04S was only US$155.69 back in 2014 at amzn-direct. Even GX-59 can be had at even way way cheaper pricing than that at amzn-direct back in 2014. Heck! Now that I checked, I paid more for GX-62 (US$115) than either of those, and I was really whining about how much of a ripoff that pricing was considering how inexplicably tiny Bandai made SOC-Danguard...

Yes I decided to skip SoC Danguard and get bigger Yamato one.
I was watching OptimusPrimeSG(GX-04) and RPA(Gunbuster) video and they were mentioning that those two items individually were going for crazy secondary market prices.
