I was quite happy with how the FA for Combattler V and Voltes V turned out. I was planning on getting the Daitarn 3 FA until I realized how small the height and scale was, Gold's photo above really sealed it for me. I'd like to get a large size Daitarn to tower over some of my other figures, preferably a figure around 12" but the only one I'm aware of is the SOC line. For those who have the SOC GX-53 / GX-65 how much of a difference do you notice between the movement, articulation and ability to standup without support in the FA vs the SOC? My Son will also be playing with it eventually, which is why I was leaning towards the FA, but I'm very disappointed the FA for both Daitarn 3 and Ideon are so short. The FA series released by Bandai for more articulation and playable than SOC line , not mentioning the height of figure compare with SOC Bandai offering extreme pose for FA than gattai experience at SOC line So i think FA line enough stay at 18-19cm , enjoy for play and pose than SOC Like example for Ideon SOC i dont think so more enjoy to play it than FA Line.... because its too big and hefty (my opinion) just stay on gattai experience for SOC line

SOC Daitarn 3 is decently poseable among SOCs (the more limited joints are the hips, if I remember correctly, the rest are pretty standard, 90 degree elbows and knees, has some ankle pivot..etc.). While not on par with the FA, it can pose decently well. You can check out Gold's old review and see for yourself. And if you are leaning on getting that instead of the FA, you can see which version you like more, the GX-53 or 65 (I like my GX-53 over the reissue with chrome). bravefortress.com/gallery/soul-of-chogokin-gx-53-daitarn-3/bravefortress.com/gallery/soul-of-chogokin-gx-65-daitarn-3/

Thanks for the info, it sounds like the SOC for Ideon and Daitarn are rather hefty and not as fun to play with, at least for my young son.
I also lean towards the GX-53, I prefer the subdued look to the chrome. It's too bad there isn't a giant figure similar to the Yamato Ideon that's made more for running around the room.

Yeah, don't have a lot of choices when it comes to Daitarn 3. One of the less popular oldies when it comes to toy release. I thought of the Medicom vinyl might be appropriate for your young son, but even that is getting hard to find. There is also this really old Banpresto figure. Very limited articulation with part swap transformation. Not sure if it worth the price for what it is though. www.ebay.com/itm/165732318255?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=AR57-fD6OhvnwmDbJfdOEt19T73oM5qBTVLjVtsvzDSozYlt5srAlWPOLPI

Oh wow you weren't kidding about the prices on the medicom Daitarn 3, some of them dwarf the SOC price.
I have the 6" Banpresto SRW figure which has limited articulation, it's not bad. I've seen the one you linked on Mercari as well, at a more reasonable price so perhaps that will be the best way to go. Shame though, I think Daitarn 3 is one of the most fun shows Sunrise has ever produced.

It does seem like super robots has passed its prime when it comes to cheaper entry level releases. Everything is catered to veteran collectors with very high end prices and quality. While the main cheap stuff resort to SMP model kits or some SD random release. You don't see $50-80 plastic or gokin super robots much anymore with very very few exception (Mini Gokin T-28 came to mind). And SRC line is pretty dead by now. Harder to find stuff for young kids, unless you resort to TFs or Diaclones.

It is a shame, my age group loved giant robots as a kid but they are less and less common nowadays.
I like the SRCs quite a bit, too bad the line is more or less dead. SMPs are also annoying since they don't seem to redo production runs so if you try to pick up an older one that price has sky rocketed, SMP Shin Getter 2&3 go for huge prices nowadays. I was considering the SMP Daitarn but its also a shorty. I found the Banpresto Daitarn you mentioned on Mercari for $16 so I went ahead and ordered that while I mull over the SOC vs the FA. Thank you for the help!

Thank you for the help! For you, it is an easy choice. SOC GX-53 over FA any day (not counting aftermarket markups). The bigger SOC offers a lot more (size and transformation especially). GX-53 or 65 is a more proper gokin representation of Daitarn 3, and likely won't be another one coming around for a very long time. Grab one while you still can. FA is more for people already have GX-53 or 65, and still want more Daitarn or more articulation, but not a replacement. Looks like GX-53 is cheaper than 65, and you can probably still find some around $250-300 on Yahoo Japan auctions and Mercari Japan. Maybe even better deals if you look around.

i agree with mpchi i dont recommend the FA along with Zambot 3 they are the worst figures in the FA line not sure about Ideon since i didnt get it the GX-53 is the best choice
