Anyone here ever pre-order from Nippon Yasan?
I read a ton of negative 1 star reviews online, and it seems like they've plumeted in their customer service since COVID.
Most reviews claim they never ship any of the pre-orders once in stock, even closing your account without refunding you, etc.
Anyone here waiting on any pre-orders from them or can share anything positive about them?
I want to buy something from them, but wasn't sure if it was worth the risk.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

They are legit. Been buying from them almost a decade. Its a good shop with a few things to look out for. There are times they take in more preorders than they can fulfill, so once in a while, a high demand low production item preorder may sit in limbo for months before it can be filled by manufacture 2nd batch. (You can contact them and ask for refund or store credit if that happens). Their discount is probably the best even compare to Amiami, but they get you back on higher shipping. If you are buying regular releases or not super sort after web exclusives that are not likely get enough stock, you are totally fine.
The only 2 preorders I have issues with them are Pose+ Goshogun & Macross DX Strike Pack (both high demand and low production), which are both in waiting status months after release. All the other orders went through without problems. Most people don't like them due to them marking up the price on hot items as they see fit soon after the initial batch at regular price sold out. While it sucks for us customers, its just the nature of the business. Plenty HK local shops does the same, as well as some other online shops.

Thanks mpchi,
That leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I did want to place that pre-order of DX VF-1S Roy Fokker for $350.
I am guessing that falls under the "limited-run" category? It sucks because at this point, they're the only store that still has it available for PO.....

Yeah, the DX Focker 1S won't be a good candidate to get from there, especially when it is days after the initial preorder opening. While they can probably still get you one, there is a slight chance it turn out just like my Goshogun or Strike Pack. I would keep an open eye around release date, and try score one on Mandarake or Yahoo Japan auction, if the regular channels are no dice. No point locking yourself with the high mark-up this early.

Gotcha, thanks for the advice mpchi. I appreciate it. No problem. If you search ebay, you can find a bunch of DX VF-1S Hikaru around US$330 shipped. So I would expect you'll see similar pricing and situation when Focker releases. While you may need to pay for some mark-up if unlucky, it is still better than $350 + shipping. Hope you find one at a good price. I would like one myself too, but I am not dead set on a 1S. If I find it, I find it.

Bought a few times from them, never had any problem.
But with Covid, customer service is impacted everywhere.
I would buy from them without hesitation.

cool cool, thanks guys. It was pretty discouraging reading so many (and I mean there were tons) of negative feedback from customers about them.

I’ve also used them a bunch of times and never had any issues. I haven’t ordered anything post-covid, though.
They have a cool feature on the pay-later items where you can pay anytime before release. Also you can combine orders after they were placed. Pretty cool.

Hey Germie,
When you say combine orders, do you mean I can order both pre-order and in-stock items at the same time, but they can ship everything together once the pre-order item is available? If so, that is pretty neat.

Word of caution. Even pre-COVID, they have had problems with fulfilling orders on time. There are some that do get them on time and some don't which last months after the release date. No proper explanation given and sometimes inquiries go ignored. With in-stock items, I think you're good for the most part.

Thanks bleah, Doesn't sit too well knowing all these inconsistencies. I might just look elsewhere.

Years ago there was a shortage of stock for N-Y preorder of a DX Chogokin VF-31A Kairos. The aftermarket price had already shot up to $400+ in a few weeks. Many other retailers like HLJ and AmiAmi cancelled their unfulfilled orders. However, N-Y said to hang in there and they will secure more stock. Sure enough, they did come through and I got my Kairos without any changes in prices, but almost 2 months later than originally anticipated. Have to give them props for that.
N-Y past couple of years has had slow service and response time. They take over a week to ship out after release date, sometimes even more than 3 weeks. After sending a question via their customer service form, it takes 4-5 days to get an email response. N-Y also overcharges the shipping cost, basically "over-evaluate" in case the package is bigger/heavier than expected. But you won't get any readjustment in shipping price even if the shipping cost is less than expected.
The thing I dislike most about N-Y is how they will hold back some preorder stock, and once it is "sold out", relist the item immediately at scalper price and require upfront payment. This feel so shady.

This feel so shady. I completely agree with this. While the free market allows for shady practice, Nippon Yasan are thoroughly despicable regarding their price gouging at release time. Immediately fluctuating prices from retail sellers is unacceptable.

Wow, that is shady as hell. I thought only sellers on auction sites did that and not retailers.
I've purchased from AmiAmi and HLJ before with flawless results.
Seems like the more I dig into N-Y, the more worms I uncover.

I had a recent bad experience with them. I tried to order two items that were listed as in stock on there website. I wanted to give them another chance after the issues I had with them regarding the SOC Dairugger preorder problem as I had never had a problem with them before. This time I never received the items and had a hard time getting any response from them as to when the items might ship and after that about getting a refund. I am now waiting on the results from my PayPal dispute to see if I will get my money back. I can no longer recommend doing business with them.

Rx79msg,
what happened with your Dairugger pre-order from N-Y?

Rx79msg, what happened with your Dairugger pre-order from N-Y? I wasn’t able to get the initial price offered. I went with their inflated second offering price and put in a preorder for it with them. Upon release everyone else received theirs and still hadn’t after a couple of weeks. I was looking online and found a U.S. retailer that actually had it cheaper than what I paid Nippon Yassan for it. Especially considering the added cost of shipping it from Japan. So I requested a refund from them and on that occasion had no trouble getting it from them. This time it has not gone well.

Thanks rx79msg,
sounds like a real pain to deal with. I hope that refund gets resolved soon.
The fact they inflate pricing during the pre-order stage leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
