hello friends
i thought we need a thread for stores that failed to deliver or changed their policy for worst during this hard times, i guess it will be a good idea to have a thread for all sites not just NY
i will start first
couple of days ago i bought something from AmiAmi, when it comes to shipping the item they failed miserably, they told me due to their store policy they are unable to process any order with a shipping address that is registered to a forwarding company in Japan
keep in mind they were fine doing that in past for me and for a friend, i explained the situation for them, shipping the item directly to me will be risky, it will be either damaged or lost in this times, logically any other professional store will either understand or at least reply back, but not AmiAmi, they didn't even bothered to reply they just refunded me, simple as that
so for me this is a huge fail in book, i know for fact alot of members are suffering from their arrogance by not shipping or find a solution to ship orders
i will never deal with them again, and i will not recommend them to any one i know
lastly please share your experience with other stores so we know what to avoid and what to go to

Actually the whole country of Japan failed the COVID-19 test.
1- lacks support. 2- high shipping. 3- Unnecessary restrictions. 4- scalper haven.
Feel free to add.

Japan is not known for its adaptability. You are talking about the less flexible people in the world. So, they are not good at dealing with exceptions, they work with rules and only rules. We live in different countries, some of us in countries where nothing works in proper ways normally, so during COVID everything is worse. I had the pleasure of having as friends a japanese couple that lived here in Argentina for three years, and explaining to them how we broke naturally every rule was fun but also a bit shameful (for example dont stop at a red light in dangerous neighborhoods at night because its really dangerous).

On the contrary, Mandarake is being really good. I have been ordering from them finding cheaper deals and older stuff through out this year, at least with 4-5 purchases. Zero issue, decent DHL rates, and once they confirmed the order and checked item in stock, the things show up within 3-4 days. So...
Place doesn't suck: MANDARAKE

Amiami's been just fine for me. They've cancelled orders I couldn't keep because of the delays by the production company, I think the DHL shipping prices have been fair so far, sometimes they've taken a couple extra days to get an item in the mail when it's close to the weekend but that's not a deal breaker for me.
Thus far buying from Japanese stores and shipping with DHL has not been a problem at all, except I did buy the Kotobukiya Onyx and Pikachu Pokemon statue at HLJ and I can't ship it yet because the shipping is $200 for the one statue. But they aren't forcing me to ship it either, so again that's fine, I can wait.

I bought a metal composite Zaku and it got stuck in shipping , they respond to email is just awful ! used to be very good but with this situation it is just terrible!

I had to do a charge back for a preorder I had with NY. They screwed up, and a lot of us are having issues getting a refund, or straight up losing money over it.
CDJapan has been my main vendor ever since I started buying japanese import goods, and I have ordered many goods with no issues. Very good! That is until covid. They are graciously warehousing all of my orders that have come in, but they have not adapted to the situation any more than that. I have already paid for the goods, and for registered SAL shipping to the US. Since registered SAL is not currently available, my only options are to DOUBLE the cost of my goods by using DHL or Fedex, or to wait and hope for the best. Their rates for DHL and Fedex both seem extra high compared to Mandarake, and HLJ for comparable package sizes and weights. Like, frustratingly and seemingly arbitrarily higher. And they wont add surface mail as an option. And they won't consolidate my orders into more cost effective packaging. And they are probably going to continue to do nothing until registered SAL becomes available again. And I'm sure there will be a price increase, and it will probably be more than I care to guess at this point... I've had two SOC gokins, another gokin, three figuarts, a robot damashii, and some model kits sitting with them for about a year now.
So, yeah, CDJapan has been good to hold onto my stuff, but they could certainly do better.
I just want them to add surface/ferry so I can get my stuff shipped. How could that be so difficult?

Is surface/ferry trackable? Can you get insurance on it? I have some goods at HLJ and want to try surface shipping option. Are you willing to ship your gokins without tracking and insurance? I read somewhere that you can buy separate insurance for it (which is going to another thing to deal with )

Surface/ferry is not trackable as far as I know. I have received everything I've ever shipped that way, though.

Anime-Export failed in the beginning IMO but I think they have gotten better. At first they had no shipping option, then they went with ECMS Global which was basically SAL at EMS prices, and finally they moved to DHL.
Amiami I havent had any problems but I ran into the same issue of them not shipping to any forwarder. That screwed me out of a pre-order on their JP site, because they dont sell Saint CLoth Myth on the international site.
HLJ has worked fine for me.
Amazon JP has been my hero this whole time.
Mandarake is great as long as you dont use the SAHRA store. They have pre-calculated rates for their shipping when you check out. A figuarts is like $30+ to ship from SAHRA but only around $13 from the physical stores. You have to wait a few days to get the final bill from a physical store but its better than overpaying.

Anime export also promply reacted to the Nippon Yasan case by offering pay later option. But shipping express is same price as economic now when ordering from Japan.

I take back all of the criticism I had for CDJapan. They are upgrading shipping for all of my orders for free

Surface/ferry is not trackable as far as I know. I have received everything I've ever shipped that way, though. I am considering shipping my private warehouse holding from HLJ using surface mail. HLJ offers a tracking number and insurance up to 10,000 YEN Is this standard for all other shops? ・A tracking number is included with this shipping option. ・Please be aware that HobbyLink Japan can only cover up to 10,000 yen of the order if the package is lost or damaged. An official inquiry with Japan Post is required before a package can be officially declared lost or damaged by the postal service.
