Been playing the Yuushou theme while unboxing and handling Shin Getter Dragon a bit. Didn't get to try the accessories but just the main figure. Here is my initial impression. - Shin Getter Dragon is VERY good. Everything hip and above is some of Sentinel's best work, period. - The neck design is out of this world. Biggest articulation range of any figure I have. - The shoulder pads, butterfly joints, all have extra design put into it than your normal great figures you came across. There are 4 swivel joints on the lower arm from elbow to wrist. 4! - Aside the shoulder pads, all upper body joints are very tight. Very precise tolarance, and give you that same feel from good CCSToys and Metal Build stuff. - Paint job is beautiful. Sculpt is top notch. Though one interesting detail is the face actually has no nose. Rather than similar to traditional Getter Dragon's face (or even Optimus Prime's cartoon face), the little nose is not presented, but Sentinel had the mouth piece just implied a tiny bump on top and call that a nose. - The hip skirt design also improved. No longer looks like a broken speedo when lifted for more hip articulation, but sculpted like a continuous piece (unless you push it up all the way). Noticed I was praising all the stuff above the hip? What's down below came up a bit short. - Thigh swivel, knee, ankles all feel not as tight as the top half. They are tight enough, but just like the older Shin Getter 1, they don't have that tightness that induce a lot of confidence in doing a lot of posing. They pass the shake test, and nothing flex or wobbles. But I think I have to treat those legs the same way I treat Shin 1, make sure I don't wear them out too much. It really feels like they didn't go back and fine tuned the old legs and joints. They feel exactly the same as Shin 1's, which you would have expected to be improved after 6-7 years after released. Slightly disappointed here. - Main diecast areas are the black waist, thighs, and feet. Diecast joints can be found under the shoulder pads, elbow, the crotch inside the speedo (but not the big hip balls), and big hinge inside ankle/feet. While the figure is heavier than Shin 1(430g) at around 480g, I don't see significantly more diecast unfortunately. Shoulders and elbows have obvious new diecast addition, but all the hip and leg joints remain the same with just little bit here and there, but mostly still plastic. - Waist joints reduced to 2, instead of 3 on Shin 1. Range of ab crunch got reduced as a result, but they did get rid of that mid torso joint that some people had issue with, popping the torso in half. - The hand cylindrical peg connector doesn't seem that tight. OK for just posing hands, but not sure how well it works when holding the axes. Will have to see about that later. Overall, I still love this Shin Getter Dragon. It even exceeds my expectation on the top half, though a straight re-use of the legs without retooling or tweaking the joints is a bit disappointing, leaving it just came a little short from being a perfect Riobot release. Still very highly recommended, regardless.

first regarding my long post about articulation
you are most welcome, and thank you for taking this long conversation as fun toy conversation
to be honest with you Goshogun was the most fun doing the silly yoga pose the satisfaction i got from those clicky joints is more that what words could describe, also his ankles are on the same level of riobots and other robots i highly respected Pose + after Goshgun
thank you for sharing you input on Shin Dragon, for me personally i really like the paint and the figure looks over all but there is two main issues for me
1- i wished if they kept 1 shade of red instead of giving the knees and the feet a darker shade (at least outline them) but a totally different color is just breaking looks
2- i just noticed why i felt something is off with shin dragon, his face he have the Gundam shin (the red part) for me i dont like it because it looks like he is sticking his tong out like this
at the end im really glad that you liked it and you are satisfied with your purchase

2- i just noticed why i felt something is off with shin dragon, his face he have the Gundam shin (the red part) for me i dont like it because it looks like he is sticking his tong out like this That blue tongue thing doesn't bother me as I am used to that look on him. It is the missing nose that throw me off a bit (look more like a ninja face, with the nose covered by the cloth mask, but still has the shape/silhouette of the nose, especially when looking from the side). But he looks super cool nonetheless. When it comes to the burgundy red, they do use that quite a bit, on both Shin 1 and Shin Dragon. Though Shin 1's feet does look better, as its bottom has that burgundy red in matte, but the top is still the gloss bright red, and even with gold accent. For Dragon, its all just one color (kind of looks like he is wearing shoes). The white on Dragon is very nice though, actually pearl white with very tiny flakes, so you only catch the metallic/pearl look when you look very up close. Nice and subtle.

Thanks you S_ for taking the time to share each figure and pose them (and write that detailed post). Is not often that I can have a chat like this. Really enjoyed watching the pics and reading the comparison. Mpchi thanks for sharing your first impressions... too bad they decided to not improve the legs. I really like it though and it seems like a really good figure. I'll try to grab one (my wallet is not ready this month)

As some of you may know me enough, that I am a big fan on joint tightness, especially on the ankles (most important joint in a figure for stability IMHO). Shin Getter Dragon is great, but having the ankles not that sturdy bugs the hell out of me, and can't get it off my mind since I woke up this morning. Therefore... COMMENCE OPERATION DRAGON FEET!!!Taking a look at the ankle design, it is actually 2 ball joint sandwiching a metal hinge joint. Even though the metal hinge is really tight, the 2 not so tight ball joint still make the figure lean forward if not balanced well. Ball #1 and the hinge joint together gives the ankle bend, while ball #2 is the ankle rocker (would have been less tightness/lean problem if this is a hinge/swivel joint instead, but the ball does give more 3 dimensional movement). Time to pull out the good old Permanent Matte Varnish. Super glue can work on Ball #1, but I don't want to risk it on a new expensive figure, in case I made the ball too thick and actually cracks the socket. But Ball #2 has to use the varnish, since it is not easy to take that apart. Just seep a drop of varnish into the gap, and it will flow into the socket. Move the joint a bit to let the liquid spread more evenly in there. One drop is enough, don't over do it and make a mess. The space in the socket is very tight there so not a lot of room for more varnish. The varnish is very liquidy, so tilt the joint a certain angle to keep the varnish from spilling out. It takes about 10-15 mins to start drying, and it will form a rubber plastic film in there after an hour or so, adding more friction to the joint. Less destructive than super glue, as you can scrape them off if you really want to, just take some work. After Ball #2 is semi dry, you can then proceed to do the same to Ball #1, coat the ball with enough varnish, then pop it back in the socket. Some varnish will be visible at the ball joint gap, but at least it is pretty well hidden. I left Dragon in this pose for a while to let the varnish in Ball #1 dry more evenly and without dripping down to the rest of the ankle joint and get messy. After waiting for another 15-20 mins, mission accomplished! Then pose Shin Dragon back into whatever normal shelf pose, and those semi dried varnish will solidify, and add more friction to those joints. For those who have Riobot Shin Getter 1 and find those ankles getting loose, you can try this trick. It will sure help.

I just got mine and notice the thigh joints are super stiff and I worry if trying to turn it forward I might break the joints?

I just got mine and notice the thigh joints are super stiff and I worry if trying to turn it forward I might break the joints? Yes, hip ball joint front & back rotation is VERY tight. Just grab near the hip and upper thigh to give it a firm twist. Once you moved it once, it won't feel 'stuck' anymore, but still remain very tight (it is probably of the tightest joint on the figure).

May be to your surprise, those circle things are actually diecast, connected to the inner diecast ankle hinge I mentioned in the fix. Think of it like a diecast insole piece inside, separated from the outside burgundy diecast shoe.

One thing worth noting. The feet's exterior design is very similar to that of CCSToys' Shin Getter and Zero. It also inherited Zero's slighlty misaligned toe, so the bottom of the whole foot is not completely straight, causing slight wobble with the toes just sit a hair above the ground. Another thing I wish Sentinel revisited and fixed since that is a minor issue that came from Shin Getter 1. But also because of the figure being smaller and lighter, and the wobble is very slight, it is less annoying than Zero's, and you can still angle the feet and ankles a certain way to get a very flat ground contact. Minor imperfection that comes with both Shin Getter 1 and Shin Getter Dragon, unfortunately.

I can't help but think of this pose as Dragon coming back from a bad day at work and throwing itself on the bed.

like you said its minor imperfection, as long as it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the figure its all good
btw in your opinion which Getter Dragon is the best overall between the SOC GX-18 and the EX Gokin ?
a little while back i had a fist fight with a good friend of mine in that regard lol, he said the GX-18 is better just because its accurate
i told him there is other factors to consider other than been accurate, its not just 1 area lol
for me i told him the EX Gokin rules all the Dragon's he got sincerely mad lol

Sorry, I know you did not ask for my opinion, but I'm giving it to you anyway. EX Gokin is a better figure and toy overall, except screen accuracy. You can get a vinyl very screen accurate yet it wont be a better figure, the thing that matter most when it comes to toys is engineering, sculpt, articulation, accesories, even fun. But not being screen accurate is not a defect (except that was the toy selling point), for example riobot mazinkaiser is a great figure, and is not designed with screen accuracy in mind, this just makes it different not better or worst. in my opinion it is better than the GX75 but I got the GX75 out of a personal preference (looks better next to my other classic SOCs, riobot is a very extreme design)... To keep it short, accuracy most of the times is about aestethic and is not right or wrong there (it is a matter of taste), while articulation, materials and other technical issues are what decide if the toy is better or worst...

On all the new parts, it is almost everything a straight up improvement over Shin Getter 1 (some of Sentinel's best work yet). While on the legs that are sharing the same parts, they are pretty much the same. Just that I have such high expectation on Shin Getter Dragon, I was hoping for even better on those reused parts with some retooling. So don't worry about fatal QC. The legs are just as good as a Shin Getter 1 when brand new. Just that I am picky about joint tightness, so went ahead and did the 'fix'. Most folks won't be bothered by it and like it very much as is. From the folks that bought it on Facebook, they all love it and no one mentioning the legs too loose (they aren't, just that I want them tighter).

If it is just comparison of Getter Dragon (no Shin, no other variants, and just between those 2 you mentioned), EX Gokin Getter Dragon is better, no doubt. Screen accuracy is a preference, but so is stylization. EX Gokin is much bigger, got more diecast, more ratchets, more sculpted details and moving parts, better articulation, so objectively, it is just a better figure (though it did cost more). GX-18 is nice in its own way, but the sculpt aged quite a bit (doesn't even have butterfly or basic double joints). GX-51 is actually a closer competitor against GX-18, with GX-51 having a more articulated shoulder. Aesthetics preference aside, those 2 are very close, while EX Gokin Dragon is in a different league. I personally regard EX Gokin Getter Dragon very high, pretty much the pinnacle of the Fewture line. Unfortunately, it did age after being out for a decade, like some of the smaller details are not very sharp, especially on the PVC parts (appear rubbery, sometimes crooked, and even with some paint smudge). And its heavy weight sometimes work against its aged engineering, with mostly plastic joints supporting very heavy body parts. Some joints and swivels are not strong enough to hold its weight, causing the Dragon legs can flop around a bit (a couple joints on mine doesn't pass the shake test, but not as bad as on the Aoshimas). It is heavy, but it is not solid like CCSToys. It is beautiful, but it is not as sharp nor as detailed as the Riobot Shin Getter Dragon. It was an awesome high benchmark of its time, with some companies had finally surpassed it and reached higher ground these days. But as a Getter Dragon figure and straight Getter Dragon only, it is still the most beautiful version out there IMHO (QC or fit & finish aside). That would be my take.

not at all bro your opinion is always welcome, in matter of fact i was going to mention you but i forgot honestly lol, so thank you for sharing
i highly agree with you, for me there is a criteria i goes by to decided which figure is better i do not go by 1 point a call it a day

thank you for the detailed reply
as you know i got mine like two years ago (paid a part of my soul to get it along with the other two) but no regrets i knew what im getting, which is a piece of art by Taku Sato, and to this day i still get comments like (is this new? , is this from a new show?) the design didnt aged 1 day lol
for me it was the Getter Dragon to get, im not even bothered with any other release (until Pose + announced one)
it just destroy the GX-18 as the only thing that it got over the EX is accuracy (in the looks not paint) but even with that its not %100 accurate the eyes, the mouth, the shoulders are not that good in my opinions

Since we were talking about these, did a couple quick snap for comparison. And this one is just badassery overflow! Believe in Getter!!! (....and Mazin Power too, I suppose ) Need an appropriate soundtrack to go with these, nothing more fitting than a theme named 気勢 (Kisei - meaning overwhelming prescence, the kind you find from a warrior in a battlefield)!
