Because this forum has a very International flavor, I'd like to create one thread for those like me: Grew up in the continental United States of America in the 1970s. I want to know the following:
1. How did you discover Super Robots? 2. List your favorite Super Robots in order. 3. Did any Super Robot air on any of your local UHF stations? 4. Now that you're an adult, which Super Robots figures do you collect? 5. What is your Super Robot grail that you own or wish you owned? 6. What are your top Super Robot figures you wish various companies would produce?
Thanks & I look forward with bonding with my fellow US kids of the 1970s!

1. How did you discover Super Robots?
Via Mattel's 24" line of "Shogun Warriors." I had no reference for their back stories so I made my own up! Later, I occasionally read Marvel Comic Group's Shogun Warriors comic books but was disappointed that my favorite, Great Mazinga did not appear in it.
2. List your favorite Super Robots in order.
- Great Mazinger - Getter Dragon - Reideen/Raideen/Raydeen (What is his proper name any way???) - Gaiking - God Mazinger (Discovered in my 40s!) - Mazinkaiser
3. Did any Super Robot air on any of your local UHF stations?
Nope! I didn't realize cartoons aka anime for these characters even existed until I was in my 30s.
4. Now that you're an adult, which Super Robots figures do you collect?
All the ones I listed above.
5. What is your Super Robot grail that you own or wish you owned?
DX Soul of Chogokin Great Mazinger - I own it!
6. What are your top Super Robot figures you wish various companies would produce?
- DX Soul of Chogokin Getter Dragon - King Arts Getter Dragon - Sky X Getter Dragon - DX Soul of Chogokin Reideen - King Arts Reideen - Sky X Reideen - Sky X God Mazinger

1. How did you discover Super Robots? Primarily from watching Force Five in the Boston Area in the early 80’s and from the jumbo Shogun Warrior toy line. 2. List your favorite Super Robots in order. -Gaiking -Getter Dragon, Liger, Poseidon -Grendizer -Danguard Ace -Mazinger Z/Great Mazinger/Mazinkaiser 3. Did any Super Robot air on any of your local UHF stations? Yup…Channel 56 Force Five, Monday was Danguard, Tuesday, Starvengers which was Getter G trio, Wed Spacekateers(didn’t care for this one), Thursday was Grendizer, then they saved the best for last on Friday with Gaiking 4. Now that you're an adult, which Super Robots figures do you collect? Primarily Soul of chogokin for my answers from question 2. 5. What is your Super Robot grail that you own or wish you owned? My Grail is Daikumaryu Gaiking GX 100, which I own. 6. What are your top Super Robot figures you wish various companies would produce? I think currently I’m all about CCS toy line and hope they release Gaiking, Grendizer and the Getter Robo G trio. I have their Shin Getter Robo 1 and Mazinger Zero so far and awaiting my Great Mazinger preorder. I really love the updated design they produce. I hope they also bring out Getter 2 and 3. It seems they always focus on the first getter Super Robo and leave out the other two. Why? All of us who have the first one would love to complete the trio!

I chose that one. Do you think the CCS Toys one looks better?

I think it looks better than the SKY X Studio Mazinkaiser tho but they are technically different mecha. But you can’t go wrong with either one.

1. How did you discover Super Robots?
It was probably a combination of 4 things for me. Mattel's Shogun warriors hit just at that right age. I had a few of them plus the comics. I loved the die cast ones. I had a friend from England who's parents got him a lot of cool imported die cast stuff which was amazing. And somewhere in this mix Micronauts hit toy shelves along with Battle of the Planets hitting TV. Which all kind of merged into a lifelong love of Giant Robots. All of this spawned from an already discovered love of Godzilla and Giant Monster movies. If anybody remembers the 4:30 movie in the New York Broadcast area you'll understand. I think my first Japanese Robot show was Astro Boy which at one point ran adjacent to Captain Kangeroo in the mornings. Astro Boy creeped me the f out
2. List your favorite Super Robots in order.
oof! My favorites change daily. I think my first love was Reideen as that was my first toy. Followed closely by Getter Dragon. But beyond that my mind wandered between Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger and Combatler V. For some reason I never liked Grendizer back then. The saucer seemed pointless at the time. The same with Gaiking.
3. Did any Super Robot air on any of your local UHF stations?
Like I said above Astro Boy and Speed Racer, while not robot Super Robot shows came over very early and aired in the morning cartoon block alongside Captain Kangeroo. This was when I was very young. I think the only even vaguely robot related anime that hit regular broadcast near me was Battle of the Planets. Sadly my area never got Force 5 that I was aware of.
4. Now that you're an adult, which Super Robots figures do you collect?
I have an almost complete SRC collection. I love the little poseable guys. I have better than half the SOC's probably at least 2/3's. My favorites to collect in larger form are any of the combiners.
5. What is your Super Robot grail that you own or wish you owned?
So Many. There are a few Godaiken or original Popy's I would love. My only other grail just because its such a unique piece and was here and gone so fast as Yamato crumbled is the Yamato Shield Liger. Oh and a full set of SentiNel's 1/12 scale Mospeada Cyclones.
6. What are your top Super Robot figures you wish various companies would produce? I've been begging for Bandai to go deeper into the Super Sentai classics in their SOC line forever. Although I am easy to please. I look back at my top wish list when I started my modern collecting a few years ago. Most of all of our wish lists, and almost everything we have wanted has been delivered in droves. Voltron? Vehicle Voltron? SOC Megazord? What few Bandai hasn't done Sentinel and others have. I think the only thing missing from my collection is a good non magnetic version of Albegas. Just to finish up the "Voltron's" on my shelf.
Yeah 70's kids might remember this

Astro Boy was my first anime as well but I saw it much younger. My memory tells me it was my very first cartoon along with Kimba the White Lion. Unfortunately, by 4 or 5 years old, both were eradicated in the Philadelphia viewing market.

1. How did you discover Super Robots? I was born in 1975, but I consider myself more of a 1980's kid. But I'll participate.
My first super robot toy ever was a Mattel Shogun Warrior Dragun figure that I received circa 1978-79.
A cousin had a few of the Bandai Godaikin toys and first exposed me to them in 1982-83. When Lion Voltron aired in 1984, I immediately recognized it from seeing it from my cousin's Godaikin toy catalog.
I'm from Los Angeles, but my family took a vacation trip to the Philippines in 1999. I saw a lot of Voltes V merch and immediately associated memories about it from my cousin's Godaikin catalog. I became curious as to why Voltes V was so popular in the Philippines so I ended up downloading the anime series from torrents on Limewire.
I was hooked. Up until 1999, I thought Lion Voltron was the greatest super robot ever. But after watching Voltes V and then watching all the subsequent other super robots thereafter, I was thirsty for more robot content.
I wanted to learn more about other super robots that preceded and succeeded Voltes V and it unlocked the whole interest of super robots with me from 1972-1985. Revisiting and collecting toys of Lion Voltron and Vehicle Voltron, I became curious with Gladiator Voltron II (Albegas). After acquiring the Matchbox Voltron II set, I was immediately fascinated and impressed at the amazing play value that I feel is superior to the 5 lions or 15 vehicles.
I have developed a continuous obsession waiting for Bandai, Action Toys, or Pose+ to produce a Soul of Chogokin quality gokin of Albegas. I'll probably be dead by the time one comes out, but I hope for one every single year.
Currently I am trying to watch every super robot series that aired in Japan between 1972 (Mazinger Z) through 1985 (Dancouga). I am not really interested in modern super robots from the 1990's and 2000's, although I do like SRX.2. List your favorite Super Robots in order.- Albegas
- Voltes V
- Mazinger Z
- Getter-1
- Getter Dragon
3. Did any Super Robot air on any of your local UHF stations? I watched Tranzor Z in 1985. 4. Now that you're an adult, which Super Robots figures do you collect?- Bandai Soul of Chogokin
- Pose+ Metal Series
- Action Toys Heavy Metal
- Evolution Toy/Future Quest Grand Big Size Action
- CM's Brave Gokin
- Bandai Godaikin
- Mattel Shogun Warriors
- Popy Jumbo Machinders
5. What is your Super Robot grail that you own or wish you owned? Grails Owned: Popy Jumbo Machinder Voltes V & Popy Jumbo Machinder Golion Grail Wish: Popy Jumbo UFO Spazer 6. What are your top Super Robot figures you wish various companies would produce? Albegas by Bandai, Action Toys or Pose+
