My 3 most favorite SOC's are:
- GX-13 Dancouga: I am still in awe of its design and it is almost 2 years since its release... I also love its complexity and variations.
- GX-09MA MinervaX: Hands down, I have not seen anything quite like her. I still marvel at how she is able to stand with her gigantic head-wing. Her color and how she shimmers are also truly captivating.
- GX-20 Getter Poseidon: Not much frills. Just a solid robot. No doubt that this bad boy is made of die-cast metal. This is the one I let people handle first when I show off my collection. I get tons of "WOW's."
My 3 least fav SOC's are:
- GX-03 Combattler V: My version's bottom half keeps dropping off. This is my most banged-up robot. Though the battle-scared look is kinda cool... This mangled robot of mine seems out-of-place in comparison to my pristine ones. Okay, okay, maybe this is just the frustrated Voltes V worshiping Filipino* side of me jabbering... Please release Voltes V!!!
- GX-11 Diana A: Alright, I agree with most of you... her color scheme is awful. Plus, the boobs on my robot keep shooting off. I have wasted so much time and energy already looking for her trigger-happy mammaries.
- GX-05: Gaiking: There is so much I can vent on this disaster. Everything pops out and the robot is too damn small and delicate. I am tempted to crazy glue its pieces together! Give me GX-27 now before I do this horrible act!!!
*Though I am a huge Voltes V fan, I am still partial to Mazinger Z. Yep, I was one of those odd Filipino kids in the 70's rooting for Mazinger instead of Voltes V. Okay, if I am such a huge Mazinger fan why then did I not include GX-01 + 02 as one of my top 3? They are the ones that kicked started my collection, right? I admit, my favoritism changes from time to time. They were up there in the beginning...

First: GX-01 Mazinger. It made me start collecting toys. Very well designed, very good articulation and poseability. It's a dream come true. When I was a child, industry standards where not able to make a figure like this. Now this kind of suppa robottos have figures that make them justice.
Second cool: GX-02 Great Mazinger. Also a very cool desing.
Third: GX-18 Getter Dragon. Very well designed and able to achieve very dinamic poses. Good diecast content. Good rendition of the character. Very good in all aspects.
Least favs:
GX-04 Grandizer. Poor poseability because of hip joint. It's a pity because the rendition of the character is very well done and includes and astounding Spacer and Double Spacer.
GX-06 Getter Oner. The same as above. Poor poseability and stability because of hip joint. Is there a solution for this problem? Anyone knows?
GX-08 Afrodita A. The figure of Sayaka Yumi inside the head is ouy of scale. Better without this figure and with a non transparent cockpit. Also not in scale with GX-01, problem that seems solved with GX-01R, which by the way has a very big Pilder. It shoul fit entirely inside the head of Mazinger, but in GX-01R the upper part remains outside.

you should post a pic of the getter one hip, mine is perfect and the toy is outstanding.Maybe you didn't fix it right? Did you snap the peg well in? Basically it's the same design of Maz Z but a bit better IMHO.

Personal Favs: 1) Dancouga. I love the design. Turned my least favorite Godaikin into my absolute favorite SOC 2) Combattra. Sentimantal favorite of mine from the old Marvel Comics days...now I NEED them to come out with Dangard & Raydeen SOC's!!! 3) Getter Dragun. Another sentimental favorite, great design and stays absolutely true to its source My least favs are the EVAs...I just can't get into them...guess I'm just a sucker for the old classic "super robot" designs....

I have no favorites...lol It is hard to choose. T-28 was for a minute when I first opened it up...
About the Evas...IMO they have the best poseability and the accessories are plenty and satistfying, aside from losing the horn of Unit 01, I don't understand the dislike for the EVA's.
I must admit initially I dismissed these as not being true to the line, but then again I saw it as die-cast equivalent of action figures, a very noble idea. I understand the purist feelings, but don't agree. SOC is a "new" line of toys that in my opinion was/is designed to bring forth nostalgia and start new memories with new mecha. I actually got into the anime because of the design of the mech, not the other way around.

Favorites: 1 - Zanbot III. I simply loved the anime when I was a kid, and I think that it's the best version of the Zanbot ever made! The retractable big head into the ZanboAce's chest really makes me drool. 2 - Combattra. Simply the best eingeneering concept for a SOC 3 - Grendizer. Another one of my all-times-favorites. plenty of accessories, and highly detailed. Least favorites: 1 - Tetsujin 28. That's why I didn't purchased it. It's an old fashioned coffee machine, I just can't get into it... 2 - Eva's.Although they are really a beauty they're not true to the spirit of the line. 4 - Dianan A. C'mon, a little color on Sayaka Yumi's helmet on the little bike! Terrible color scheme and a look-at-me--and-I-shoot-my-boobs attitude.... Special mentions: 1 - Daiku Maryu. Man how I love it! To feel the real transforming feeling of Gaiking! I might have been lucky, but my 'king is perfect. Big flaw though: when in dragon head mode the components simply don't fit in the Maryu's belly 2 - Boss Borot. Nice.Simple.Dumb.Totally useless, but impossible to hate.

Favs:
i) Mazinger GX-01R ii) Grendizer GX-04 iii) Combattler V
Just the familiarity from my childhood in Phil. watching these [well not combattler but since there's no Voltes V that's close enough for now.]
And just seeing how anime accurate these are to the anime is joy.
Least Fav:
Can it be six ?
All the eva particularly the red, purple and blue
just because, the design doesn't appeal to me as much and when I got around to actually watching the anime I disliked them even more.
Also, the joints on them are rather "loose" out of the box, like its been played with a few times.
It was the "completist" in me which made me get these.

Top three: #1-GX-04 Grendizer. Which is a no brainer for me since it was my first SOC of my favorite Super Robot.
#2-GX-01R Mazinger Z/GX-2R Great Mazinger. I can't seperate these two since I like them equally and it really seems that you can't have one without getting the other. These two are the old married couple that are attached at the hip all the time.
#3-GX-18 Getter Dragon. My second favorite Super Robot from the old "Force Five" days and still the baddest Getter out there.
Bottom three: There isn't really any SOC's that hate but if I had to pick the bottom three. #1-GX-17 Yellow Eva. Nothing really wrong with him, just kinda boring next to the other Eva's.
#2-GX-10 Boss Borot. A solid piece of diecast for sure but after the novelty where's off he just ends up standing on my shelf.
#3-GX-23 Zambot 3. More dissapointed about how good this figure could have been. All it needed was better leg articulation and a higher quality of plastic used for some parts.

My Favs would have to be 1. ALL the Evas. I think in order to get into the Evas, you have to first be a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion (I am) 2. Mazinger Z/Great Mazinger 3. Boss Borot...at first I didn't like him....that was until I opened his box and played with him. Ya gotta love the different faces Least Favs would be 1. Zambot....I don't like Plastic SOC's, they are not true to the name. 2. Gaiking...he is just too small for now 3. Combattler V ...see Zambot above

1. GX-03 Combattler A man amongst boys.
2. GX-10 The Boss The ultimate "less is more bot".
3. GX-14 Eva Unit 1 What a beautiful piece; I believe someone on this board compared it to jewelry. This freak of nature took S.O.C.'s (and all other Gokins for that matter) to a new level.
I have yet to meet a S.O.C. that I didn't like.

Favourites (in no particular order): GX-14 - Evangelion turned anime on its ear in the mid-90s and has become an icon of the import industry. Many were upset that this "modern" design was stepping on Super-Robot toes when it joined the SoC line-up. It's the most poseable bot in my collection. And it just looks good.
GX-11MA - Proof-positive that a good paint job makes a world of difference.
GX-01R - Doesn't need a huge box of accessories to be cool. Mazinger edges out GX-04 because of personal taste. He shoots missles, fists, has a very playable scrander that fits nicely... I love this guy. He was also my first SoC, I think.
Least favourites (also in no particular order): GX-11 - I never liked her colour scheme... ever. And as an SoC, she came disappointingly few accessories. I just can't find a reason to love her.
GX-02R - Not sure why, but he just didn't do it for me. The pop-up fins in his legs were cool, but other than that? Didn't like his packaging (the belly hatch came on a sprue so you couldn't display him fully while keeping him minty fresh. Worse yet, I have very little nostalgic connection with the character as a whole anyway.
GX-15 - I didn't have the problems that a lot of folks complained about (split shin panels, or bad paint job). But something about his design bothers me. I don't know what it is but next to GX-14, I hate this SoC. That narrows my complain down to the head and its colours (since the rest of him is identical to his purple brother). He just not as dynamic and that throws off my perception of him.

Favorites:
1. GX-04 U.F.O. Grendizer: other than I'm biased with all things Grendizer, this has got to be the best 'bang for your buck' SOC that I have ever purchased. The accessories alone make it worthwhile. I can get over the poseability issues easy.
2. GX-06/18/19/20 Getter Robo/G Set: Yes yes, I know, but I do consider the Getter G SOC's as a set.
These are two of the most poseable SOC's I've ever had, plus the fact that you can inter-change the parts with one another is another point for this set. The waist joint and the excellent center of balance for Getter One/Dragun/Poseidon makes this very playable.
3. GX-07 Mazinger Z OAV Ver: I have nothing but love for this classic design! The all black finish, the chest and waist articulation, and the wide feet, makes this baby a very poseable toy. It's ability to pull off excellent poses is rivalled only by the Shin Getter One from Aoshima.
4. GX-02R Great Mazinger 5. Mazinger Fembots
Least:
1. GX-14/15/16/17 EVA: These are NOT 'Soul Of Chogokin' (yeah yeah, I'm old school, so sue me ;D ).
2. GX-13 Dancouga: Much has been said about this toy. I know and acknowledge it's presence on the display case, but I can't get over the fact that it's a hat and shoe robot, and the fact that for it's size, and price, it's got issues (minor and major).
3. GX-05 Daikumaryu: this one should have been included in the SOP line. But with the coming of a SOC sized Gaiking, I may just get it. ;D

Faves:- GX-13R Dancouga: The aesthetics of this thing appealed to me immensely, and I have strong sentimental ties to this bot (unlike with most other SOC characters) - I got a damaged 80's Big Moth from a local toystore as a kid, which my dad fixed up. It was instantly the largest 'transformer' I had.. since I couldn't afford Optimus, the big guy instantly got bombarded to overall commander of all my little toybox. Having a complete, shiny, metal version is simply awesome. And the 'R' was required because it was more reminiscent of days of yore.
- GX-XXMA Fembots: What can I say? I'm a fembot collector. And the MAs have a much more general appeal, which is good considering I have no sentimental ties to Mazinger at all..
- GX-03 Combattler: Don't actually have this yet, but want it. I'm fond of combining superrobots.
Least faves.. gotta agree with the EVA-crowd. And I'm not even a purist.

Favorites: #1 GX05R Daikumaryu. While it is a little fussy, this thing epitomizes everything cool about Japanese science fiction toys. It's big, heavy and better engineered and proportioned than the old GA issue. (And I think the little Gaiking rocks, so nyah.)
#2 GX14 Eva 01. The ultimate die-cast acrobat. Nothing poses as well. It looks like it was flash frozen live from the anime.
#3 GX23 Zambot. This, more than any other SOC captures the look and feel of the old-school toys.
Least favorites:
GX13 Dancouga. Uninspired engineering. Dancouga reminds me more of a Transformer than a Super Robot.
GX07 Maz OVA. Cool enough, but it's really just another toy robot.
Likewise, the new Maz villains, Doublas and Garada left me cold. I didn't even consider them. And even though I have it, I'm not all that whippy about the GX22 Chrome Eva. They should have made the winged killer Eva from End of Evangelion insted. JWM

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the PX-02 Masked Rider Cyclone as one of their least favorites. I guess maybe because it is a Soul of Popynica--what does this mean anyway?

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the PX-02 Masked Rider Cyclone as one of their least favorites. I guess maybe because it is a Soul of Popynica--what does this mean anyway? AFAIK, Soul Of Popynica, or SOP was geared toward vehicle types. For example: - SOP Space Battleship Yamato - SOP Hover Pilder - SOP Cyclone etc... ;D Also, Ponica or 'Popy' was one of the popular diecast super robot and diecast toy vehicle manufacturers of the 70's and early 80's.

jwm, if you don't mind my asking, why don't you like the maz villains? They're some of my favorites- I have them displayed next to my gx-06 ATM and they steal the show. It's too bad their torsos aren't diecast, but besides that I have no real complaints. The Doublas seems to have better leg/ankle articulation than the mazinger socs it's based on!
