ataru: Unlike many collectors on the board I have no childhood associations with the original super robot shows that inspired these toys. Without that context the design of the figures sort of exists in a vaccuum- either it appeals to me or it doesn't. The flip side of that is the Evas. I'm a huge Neon Genesis fan, so those figures have the context of the story going along with the design. If I wasn't an NGE fan there's a good chance the Evas would leave me cold. JWM

Personally, I never really felt the SoP series was part of SoC... they're kind of like substitute teachers: they don't autograph your yearbook. As for the Maz villains - they're cool. But they just don't really stand-out. They have even less accessories than Dianan-A... I like them (I got both when they came out a couple of months ago). But they're just not my favourites.

Well, like those girl bots and boss, the kikaijuu are light on accessories, but then again the only accessories the gx-06 has that you'd display it with are the axes and everyone loves it. I think it's a SOC tradition to give a robot everything or at least almost everything that it was ever seen to use, but these kikaijuu just never had any other equipment. Of course you could have Garada hold Great Mazingers swords or something if you feel like it.
It all comes down to whether or not you like a robot's design in the end, but I think technically the kikaijuu are awesome SOCs. The only thing that bugs me is how with the Garada they painted the parts of the sickles that should be black silver and the parts that should be silver black.
Hmm, I guess I might as well give my own ranking while I'm talking about this. My favorite is the GX-01r. 2nd is a tie between Dancougar and the Getter set. Doublas and Daikuumaryuu tied for 3rd, 4th = GX-02r, 5th a tie between Garada and Liger, 6th Dragon, 7th Dianan, 8th a tie between Boss and Tetsujin. Those are all I've got, but I'm sure if I had Aphrodite or Grendizer theyd both be up there, and Combattler and Zanbot would both be towards the bottom. I Like the evangelion show but dislike the form of the actual "robots" when it comes down to it.
Jeez, that was a long post.

Do you guys keep the boxes of your SOC's? I have all of mine stacked up next to my collection. I know that space issue is a problem with our hobby. I love the boxes and they are great when I need to pack my robots. However, I now have a tower like structure and I am running out of room. Do you guys experience the same issue with your boxes?

I have all the boxes wrapped and sealed and stored in a dry, cool place (I wish I learned this lesson when Transformers first came out).
On another note it seems that alot of people don't like or think the Eva's deserve to be SOC's. Personally I loved the show and think it is a landmark series in Anime, plus the designs for the Evangelion's will/have become the most influential robot designs of the past 10-15 years.
There's not a doubt in my mind that 20 years from now the Eva's will be considered breakthrough designs just like Mazinger Z, Com-Battler, or the original Gundam.

Oh yeah, how prestine of a condition do you guys keep your SOC boxes? Some of my boxes are really banged-up while others are in mint condition.

Well my boxes are roughly the same shape I recieved thim in so there not perfect but good enough. But the main reason I keep them is so if/when I move I can put my SOC's back into there boxes and not worry about damage (I never plan to sell them ;D).

My soc boxes are piled up in a tower, and some stuffed in a closet. I discard the boxes for most other stuff though.

We had a whole thread going about boxes a while back. The topic seems to bring out the true loopiness of toy collectors. To me boxes matter. I think less of storage problems now (even though it can be a pain) than the condition, collectibility, value and overall coolness of the piece in twenty or thirty years. I'm not as meticulous as some people, though. I store my boxes, but I don't take extraordinary measures. JWM

My boxes are far from mint, but it's nice to know that there's somewhere for these guys to go safely when I eventually want to rotate them off my display case, etc... I'm just being realistic - given the space concerns, I'm not likely to have these guys on display forever. And on top of which, I'll have to move out of my appartment sooner or later.

Much of my stuff were shipped out of HK, and even the one's acquired locally, there is no way to keep the boxes mint. In the truest sense, "mint" boxes are hard to find.

It's difficult... Favorites: 1: GX 02 R 2: GX 06 (Getter Robot) 3: GX Getter G (18-19-20 ) Least fav: 1: GX EVAs 2: Gx 05 (the Dragon is nice, but Gaiking Robot is too small !) 3: GX 23 Zambot3 (too much plastic) __________________________________ Maybe in the future we'll see GX Shin Getter Robots ??....
