Do you guys open and assemble your SOC's as soon as you get the item(s) or do you wait? I typically wait until a special occassion (like when I accomplish something big). I use this special SOC moment as a personal reward. And so each one of my SOC is tied into a good memory. This is total cheese, huh? But hey, they are like my little trophies...

At first I opened them as soon as they came, but now I like to spread out the feeling of anticipation more. If I've gotten some other stuff recently then I'll open that stuff first and save the soc for last, going at a pace of 1 item a day to 1 a week, fully enjoying each thing before going to the next (not that I normally get stuff at that pace, but around christmas, say)

I open them right after I buy them. I imediately display them onto my shelves [SOC always behind glass]
I buy them [not exclusive to SOC] usually during stressful periods in my life. To me its the equivalent of going to a spa or getting a massage treatment I like sipping my morning coffee in front of my collection and taking work/study tea breaks to reflect in front of my collection.

I usually open the box as soon as I buy it.
Assembly takes place when I get home.
I don't let these little buggers stay too long in their boxes. ;D

I normally open SOCs as soon as I get them. Displaying SOCs is a problem because I'm always running out of space, especially since I'm like Lurker X, who prefers to display SOC inside glass cases.
October to December of last year was really stressful since so many SOCs were released in such a short period. I bought and opened many SOC at the same time that I lost track of which plastic wrapping belonged to which SOC. The two kakaiju (Doublas M2 and Garada K7) and all the Mazinger Angels came with a lot of extra plastic wrappings for the attachments. I normally keep the plastic wrappings, but I think this time it was too much.
I don't tie any good memories with opening SOCs because opening an SOC can be a bad or good memory, such as opening an SOC with bad quality problems. Then I have to spend days or weeks trying to correct the problem.

I don't have a ritual as to when I open my SOC's. It is more a factor of time. If there is enough free time between my kids and work and other hobbies, I will open it. I yet have to open GX-13, GX-06R and GX-23 and I bought those last year.

The anticipation is the best part of getting a new toy. Maybe I'm a little nuts, but I enjoy the wait. Getting a shipping confirmation and tracking number is a low-grade rush that goes on for a week. With a pre-order I can get a couple of months of knowing in the back of my head that there's something cool and fun to look forward to. I usually save unpacking the new figure for the last thing of a day- after dinner, after a shower, wife comfortably preoccupied with a book or something, and Booger the Cat safely outside. (Gotta' watch out for Booger the Cat) JWM

Personally I don't usually have a set/specific time in opening a new SOC. But one thing though is that I need to have enough time to appreciate it and enough time to display it properly. I would usually open it once I've decided where to place it. Lately though with my gold Mazinger- I had to wait for several days..I opened it er a week after my trip from the USA.

They come out of the box almost immediately but like most, it's a matter of time - if I'm busy, obviously my toys are not a hi-priority when it comes to life matters. There are times I assemble later and display right away (just to get a feel for what my shelf will look like first). It's been over a year since I got GX-02R and officially, he's not "assembled" yet: he can still be considered mint since his belly hatch is still on its sprue... Its such a tiny detail I decided it wasn't worth the time to ruin his minty condition. On the other hand, GX-04 got the full treatment: I cut up all the sprues for his spazer bits almost immediately. Also his black display stand was on a sprue too. But come on - it's Grendizer: he worth ruining the mintness - he's royalty and deserves to be displayed in full glory!

I'll definitely open them as soon as I got them. Try to combine all the parts at least one time, and then put them in the my glass shell. Every week or every two weeks, I'll take some of my SOCs (the ones that I missed the most) out from the shell and play with them for sometime. It's a different feeling to me when I play with my SOCs than I let said "playing PC games". It relaxes me a little because it brings back a lot of childhood memories. When I was a kid, I used to threw away a lot of my broken SOCs. Now, I miss them so much

I generally wait more than a week for items I've ordered to arrive, so when they (finally) do, I've got enough built-up anticipation to go around already. So generally I open SOCs the moment they arrive. However, one exception is at those rare times when I have multiple items coming in. I think it a waste to open several high-end collector's items on one day; it detracts from their proper appreciation. So then I tend to spread it out a bit. But, I do take my sweet time freeing SOCs from their boxes. I've done that whole, almost reverant, new-toy-ritual since I was but a wee Sphexish..

It depends. Right now once i order stuff i always order at least 300$ to save shipping, and each time at least 4 figures came and i will leave some of them sealed for few weeks, some open immediately.
Eventually, i will open them all, except those extras that i bought.

We started to talk about boxes the other day... I have a related question. My GX-23 Zambot box's texture is not the same as the rest. Mine is not as glossy and it's a bit rougher--in comparrison to the rest of my SOC boxes. For a while I thought that I had a fake GX-23. Are any of your Zambot boxes the same?
