Since most of our favorite robots(Mazinger Z,Combattler V ,Getter Robo, etc.) have their "souls" turned into SOCs, would you like to see an SOC version of Mazinkaiser and the Shin Getter robos? I would love to see those versions,to see how BANDAI can execute their design and gimmicks. However BANDAI wouldn't do this until until the next few years. What do you think of this?

I, for one, would think that will be very interesting. Bandai can work on the flaws of the Aoshima versions and use it as high selling points for their own versions.

I don't really think we'll see SOCs of them. They're both pretty new, newer than evangelion iirc, and although both have OVAs they originally came from super robot wars. They play on people's nostalgia, but the SOC line seems to be more about those original things you feel nostalgia for. The ova version Mazinger Z was able to be made I think because it's still Mazinger Z, and because the OVA design happens to be the same as the manga design except for the shape of the breast fire plates, and whaddayaknow, they supplied the manga version breast fire plates with the SOC.

The SOC line is basically an updating of the old Godaikin, Chogokin, and some other lines with some new figures thrown in to keep it current. So I think we won't be seeing a Mazinkaiser let alone a new Shin Getter (it seems there's a new Getter team every year) anytime soon. But if they did make one I can picture Mazinkaiser as a little smaller and slimmer than the Aoshima one so it will be more inscale with GX-01R and GX-02R. While Shin Getter will be a little bigger and lose the "Beetlejuice" size head.

Wasn't there a post about Aoshima having the only rights to Mazinkaiser so we may never see a SOC Kaiser? Thought I saw it somewhere in the forum sometime last year.

I'll go with the suggestion that SoC is a line to showcase the best of pop-culture and not just nostalgia. Evangelion is nostalgia only for guys like me who went through an anime kick in the early 90's (yikes - already 10 years ago?!). NGE is recognized is a phenomenon - easily one of the most popular modern anime.
Mazinkaizer and Shin Getter are not. Let's be realistic these new OVA's have not made the huge impact as cultural icons as their ancestors did.
...although... if Bandai somehow did produce these guys, I'd definitely be interested in seeing what they could do with them...

I think you're pretty much on the money on SOCs being for the best of pop culture, Ben-ohki, but still, mostly old pop-culture anime robots that people feel nostalgic about. In a weird way, Eva has a nostalgic feel, if you watched it when it came out at least. It began a huge anime boom, and even though it hasn't been that many years since, that period still feels very distinct from now. You can still think of Eva and with that be reminded of what your life was like back when you saw it. If you think of the soul of popynica line as being closely related to the SOC line your idea fits even better, looking at how they included Kaneda's bike.
Of course, the real reason Bandai suddenly decided to make the evas was probably someone realizing they could make a huge profit based on the show's popularity and how easy it would be to release a streak of mostly the same toys and actually have them sell.

You guys are right, the whole reason behind the SOC line is based on nostalgia for the old Super Robot toys and shows, hell half these new figures haven't had a new anime since the 70's and only appeared in some manga and games.
As for Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter, I think Mazinkaiser is a more prominent figure than Shin Getter based on the fact that it really hasn't changed much since it appeared. Shin Getter on the other hand has already been replaced by the new 2004 Shin Getter series and the figures from Fewture. Maybe if they had longer series that was a little deeper they would have made a bigger impact or my wish of a 12 part Anime based on the SRW games would have been better.
As for the Eva's there's no doubt they were a landmark in Anime history and should deserve to be made into SOC's. But I'm betting like Ataru, that Bandai mostly did it to make money on figures that need very little tooling to make different versions of.
