Here's an article from ToyboxDX:
Space Do-Over Yamato Matt 2005-03-06 03:41:56
Amidst the excitement over the upcoming Soul of Chogokin Gaiking, which is due out this April, Bandai drops a bombshell: there's a slick new Space Cruiser Yamato toy in the works.
Dengeki Hobby, the big tease of a magazine that revealed the scoop in their April issue, is keeping tight-lipped on the subject. So far, the only hints about what form the product might take are the fact it's being disclosed in the "Soul of Iron" diecast toy section, a tantalizing blueprint drawn up by Bandai's design-house Plex, and the names of the project leaders: Inoue and Nakano, the same pair that oversaw the creation of the Soul of Chogokin series.
What's it all mean? At this point, it's hard to tell. The blueprints show a design with a removable "skin" that covers an incredibly detailed interior. Soul of Big Scale? Penance for the disappointment fans felt over the Soul of Popinika Yamato? Maybe, maybe not. The design also appears to be modular, meaning it could just as easily be a highly detailed gashapon toy. Suspense killing ya? Dengeki says all will be revealed in their May issue, which isn't due on stands for another month.
Anyone know what it is talking about?

It seems we were supposed to get some news on this by now (April having long since come and gone). But in the last couple of years ToyboxDX doesn't update nearly as often as they used to so who knows... I've been wondering about this myself because it looks like the BXP-01 was reissued recently (several sellers on-line have been offering it for very reasonable prices, including some decent Buy It Nows on eBay).
I was even more curious because I had a Paypal coupon that expires soon (I ended up using it for something completely unrelated). :/

This is going to be a cut model space battleship yamato along the same lines as the model takara released last year of the real life battleship yamato- each box will come with a highly detailed piece, and when you've got all of the pieces you put them together to make the model (pre-painted). With the non-space yamato model there's lots of internal detail at each spot where they're cut, so some people leave the pieces separated from each other by some distance, but the cut lines will be very different on the space battleship yamato so that might not be able to work the same way.
