youre right I had the commbattra gashapon registerd in my mind for some reason.I sometimes confuse the two characters.I think you get the black & colored versions in the set.It looks pretty tall, but photos can be deceiving.DOES ANYBODYKNOW the height of the commbattler gashapon. I don't know the exact height, but it is pretty small, albeit it looks at lot like the Godaikin, but definitely with a lot less zinc and smaller scale! So it would make for a great addition to a collection but not to replace an SOC version. But to get back to the car thingy, I think for me the value of the classic is most definitely the feel of wild unrefined horsepower to the rear wheels...whereas the new incarnation is more refined, almost tamed shadow of its former self? No ECU's, no Catalytic Converter and no 8-way power seats, no plastic body panels, no plastic 2.5 mile per hour bumpers... However, the LS2 400 bhp and 396 ft/lbs of torque sound real pleasing and delightful, along with a 0-60 of 4.9 seconds...however it is still a shadow of its former self that is filled with marketing hype and parts that are made in Mexico, China, etc...What ever happened to good ole' Detroit power and steel? With that I take back what I said earlier about your analogy, however I think that the SOC V5 will be dragging not too far away from it's 23 year-old ancestor, since it is liekly to have the right amount of zinc, flash and soul. A la Soul of Chogokin! lol

Great thread. I really like the the analogy of the cars. If I could get a mint VoltesV- one that is even better than the one I have- I'd take it over the four new issues. I'm gonna' be a poop on the new VoltesV. I predict a very good looking piece that will be no more pose-able than Zambot, or Combattler. And I bet it will be so fussy and hard to combine that most people would rather buy two than try to reconfigure the one they already have. Even so, I'll pre-order one the second it becomes available.
The last great car that I had was a 1968 Ford Falcon two-door. It had a big six cylinder motor, and an automatic transmission. The car wasn't fast, but the AM radio worked. I got it for two hundred bucks and a '66 Chevy pickup in trade. I drove the heck out of that car. But the best thing about it was that I understood what was under the hood. I knew what all the stuff was, and how to replace it, Not so on my current vehicle. If it stops, I throw my hands up and send for help.
But this was about toys, not cars- I mean- the Voltes won't be as bad as fixing a car, but you know what I mean.

Look lets put it this way,I doubt the soc voltes5 is gonna come with a top & pen no matter how nice it is.But I just got a gaiking from changegetter and it really is amazing.I just think I'll aquire the soc's that are'nt godaiken reissues.A bit off subject but it seems alot of folks are'nt to too crazy about the yamato johnny socko/giant robo figures, but I love them.I love the look, and for under $40.00 the amount of diecast is incredible.

I've got the original & you cant beat the quirkiness of the older stuff,But the new soc's have got a great asthetic to them.So I'll just get the V5.gashapon which i understand is pretty nice.By the way does anyone know the height on it?The non posability of the godaikins is a good point,Frankensteinian is a good description.Kind of like icons in a church. The car analogy is on point my first & only car was a 74mustangIIghia.Odd little thing & not excactly a muscle car,but the b*tch had charecter, kind of like the O,G's.and ya can't beat that. I have the Voltes 5 gash but I havent assembled it, however, when put together it is only about 6 inches. Each ship is only about an inch in size. But it does resemble the Godaikin version. I am planning to get rid of it just because it is not diecast.

DOES ANYBODYKNOW the height of the commbattler gashapon. If you have a Great Maz Hero Collection toy, the Combattler gasha is about a quarter of an inch teller, or about 1 Great Maz head taller.

For me, it's all about the new SOC's. The old toys are purely nestalgic. For example, when I see the jumbo Shogun Warriors I remenber the joy they brought me as a kid. But now I see all of the imperfection like, the colors or the disproportions arms. The SOC's look the way I imagined my jumbos looking, like the anime.

Hey, Like them! ;D I have the Yamato Giant Robo chogokin. IMHO, the Yamato Giant Robo, although lacking in accessories, is one of the best toys that Yamato manufactured back then. Diecast content alone can rival even the Aoshima ShiN Getter One. It's one of my favorite chogokins. ;D

Many of the valks are cool because of detail and size, but durability and QA/QC is awful...I have a valk that I had to tighten the screws as it came out of the box...poor workmanship.
