Wow, based on the feedback... It seems like I am one of the few "players" of the SOC line. Do guys think this is the case--most people just display them? Don't worry Mazfan, I play with my SOC's as well, not very often but often enough. Thing is I have a 3 year old son that think everything is his so I have to keep him out of my display shelf which happens to be in my home office which he happens to hang out in lots of times because of the computer. I do let him play with my gx-01x which by the way is a year and a half old and still works :-) .

I have almost every SOC (color and black variants). The ones I don't have are the GX-0RB and the Black Castle Ver. (too expensive and rare). Also, I don't have the GX-01RG (too ugly, in my opinion) and the Evangelion series (not a fan).
I hardly play with my SOCs. I mean, they're quite expensive to play as actualy "toys". I just leave them alone in my display cases. Regular cleaning sometimes results in shelf dives, but I rarely have any serious damage because I have carpeting on the floor. I got really pissed off one time when I dropped my GX-06 set from 3 feet high. You know how all three Getters are in one display stand. The display stand slipped from my gloved hands. Anyway, there wasn't damage at all, but I felt I had to get a new set, so I did. I'm that a perfectionist. Well, I usually buy two of each SOC that I really like. I have two GX-23 Zambot 3. I heard people having trouble with their GX-23, but I think its design is great. I don't think you'll have any problems with the Zambot 3 just as long as you don't play with it.
Right now I'm trying to get another GX-03 because the lancers have some scratches and tarnish. It's the same situation with my GX-02R swords.
BTW, the climate in Taiwan and Hong Kong tends to be quite humid, so be careful of purchasing anything that is over 3 -4 years old even if it's MISB. SOCs can deteriorate even if they're kept inside the box. For example, the round metal covers inside the biceps tend to rust and flake off. I dub some cotton buds with some machine oil and wipe the metal chrome parts. It solves the problem of the metal chrome parts from becoming dull.

Does exposure to sun affect SOC's in any way (color fade, etc...)?

I'm sure anything will fade if it's exposed under the sun.

dude, not just the sun, UV degradation of colors can happen with incandenscent bulbs.

My god... Not only that I can not play with my robots. I now also have to keep them in the dark. Maybe I should keep them in their boxes and put the boxes inside another box--this should prevent the boxes' graphics from fading.

Okay, that means we'll have to put our SOCs in vacuum-sealed, lead cases.

Well, you can encase it in UV protected plexiglass? Or keep it in a cool dark place. The cheaper the plastic the faster it will fade. The actual fading is a chemical reaction whereas the polymer would actually change its chemical composition all polymers will eventually deteriorate with UV, however the quality of the polymer will determine how much and how soon. If your display cabinet is lined with a UV coating it should help slowdown the process. So there is no need to use lead or vacuum sealed bags. ;D ;D ;D

My GX-01 left upper leg plastic cracked on its own while displayed for like a year or 2. Apparently, the screw in the back is too tight.
And my GX-23 broke off a peg on the 'backpack', that goes on to the legs on plane mode. Broke off even without forcing it. Also, the ratchet joint on upper left arm failed to work after a while. Badly scratched up chrome sword out of the box....which all add up to be my worse SOC purchase yet.
GX-18 Getter Dragon, left elbow becomes super loose after staying in an action pose for a few months. Still can't figure out how that happened.
GX-24 Tetsujin 28 with one eye not painted straight/centered, like he is staring to the side all the time.
Others are fine.

Hi mpchi. I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one with a few "broken" robots (parts of them). Do you just diplay your collection or do you play with them. I AM A PLAYER (and a clumsy one too it seems...)!

My SOCs are pretty much in pristine condition. That said they're not "perfect mint" tho. GX-01R appears to have a few scuff marks on his chromy parts and I really haven't a clue how they got there... I mean, I didn't know you could "scuff" chrome. Whatever, I'm afraid of attempting to clean him.
One or two of my MA series fembots have a couple of minor scratches from a shelf-dive. But you really gotta be looking hard to find the scratches... considering how far the fall was, I'm rather stunned at how well their chrome-jobs held up.

I really haven't had anything break on me as far as SOCs are concern. Although I do have a few defects right out of the box and I know having read other threads in here that these problems are quite common for these releases:
i) GX-05 the paint chips on the space dragon's edges right out of the box.
ii) GX-01 the flexi-rubbery square suppose to hold the breast plate is cracked as well as the "rocket punch rings" the hold the mechanisim in place seem to have cracked as well. In addition, the leg has a tiny hairline cracks
iii) GX-04 grendizer's left leg is loose and keeps sliding down again straight out of the box
iv) GX-14 This EVA's leg & knee joints are really loose straight out of the box
v) PX-01 - one of the hoverpilder's wings need a little help bending rather than just pulling the lever at the bottom
I think that's pretty much it and like most here I take my SOC out of the box occassionally fiddle around with it then pose them behind glass with all of its parts "puddyed" on its display base.
The only thing I really "Shattered" was my Shin Getter 1 by studio half eye, i mean what a piece of $350 crap it fell from my glass case while I was cleaning the shelves and it just shattered I couldn't be bothered repairing it and it went straight into the garbage. of course it wasn't "that" great to begin with. never again SHE!!!!...no matter how much you taunt me with your perfect tranforming getter!!!

I am ablout to get one of those enclosed, glass display shelves (with lighting no less) from a fellow board member. I can't wait because this will finally make my collection somewhat dust-free. Plus, the system may prevent me from handling my robots constantly. I hope this does not stop me from having fun with my collection. I really like being hands on with my robots.
The glass shelves will sure make them look even cooler!!! Do most of you have this kind of display system or do you just have them in regular shelves (not enclosed)?

LOL, Kid, but Viagra helps when you can't get up due to poor circulation, if you can't keep your hands off of it, requires something much more expensive...a full-time girlfriend, read: IN house.

How to resist? I don't know, cause I've never bought SOC's with the intent of playing. I display them, and like Andrewdsz, I too buy those Female anime resin statues. Cant really play with them but look at them, especially the G-taste ones. Like collecting baseball cards, I want to keep my SOC in Mint Condition.
