Thanks KojiKabuto Music trailer video.... 2-3 minute video short with the character's main theme song in the background(remixed in semi-rock music). It's also the source of your Mazinger signature .gif Gold Hi Gold, Is it possible for you to convert the clip to mpg or avi and share it to us? Hehe, I would love to but I'm totally clueless as to how to do it. The clips are on DVD.. a step by step guide would be nice. Thanks Gold

Two weeks ago, I was in Hong Kong and bought Aoshima's Dark General ( Ankoku Daishogun) Overseas Limited Edition. It was a difficult purchase decision to make because of the price and my wanting to get Yamato's 1/48 scale Macross Valkyrie Fighter. In the end, I bought both Aoshima and Yamato products. I thought I got a good deal with the price of 699 HKD (90 USD) for the General Dark Overseas Limited Edition. Other shops in Hong Kong were selling it for 770 HKD (99 USD). In the end, however, and much to my dismay -I got a bad deal because I discovered some damage with the item after I opened the box in Taipei. Well, I'm sure this picture will be the "butt of jokes" (pun intended) in this thread. Anyway, one section in the back of the lower waist armor ("skirt") has come off. I'm sure it can be repaired, but I've yet to find the time.
I'm not sure if the damage was from the factory or toystore. I did notice that the box had been opened previously. Also, the damage could have occured on my return flight where I put the box with rest of my checked luggage. I doubt the latter because I packed the box very well. On the other hand, this might be a design or manufacturing defect that's common with this product. The problem also seems apparent in the Normal Version: www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/aoshima/damage2.jpg
Anyway, let me know if anyone experiences similar problems with their Aoshima Dark General.

| As for the Aoshima General Dark Normal Version, I bought it the bargain price of 2,500 NTD (591 HKD / 76 USD) from a local toyshop. Of course, it isn't perfect or in fact, complete. However, the toyshop manager warned me beforehand that the item was missing the cape, but everything else was included. Well, I already have an Overseas Limited Version, and the cape and sword are identical in both the Normal and Overseas versions. | www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/aoshima/cape.jpg

I'm sure a little super glue would fix that problem, it looks like the tiny little tabs on the skirt broke off. As for the comparison thanks alot because I was leaning for the overseas one but I think I like the normal version better. I like the way the light blue stripes stand out alot more on the normal glossy paint. Both are very nice though.
By the way which 1/48 Yamato Valk did you get?

wow! Thanks for the comparison shot. Now i know that the Normal looking version is the one I'm buying. Man, hope the defect to the skirt is just an isolated incident.

Indeed, the normal version has glossier paint whereas the Overseas "Limited" Version has sparkling-glitter and matt finish. The former is prone to scratches, especially with the metal chain attached to the waist, so handle with care.
I'd suggest that buyers select the version that suit their SOC/Aoshima/Max Factory Great Mazinger and Mazinkaiser collection. If you really like the Dark General, then get both.
As for me, I'm not a big fan of Dark General, but there's not a lot of Mazinger kaiju or evil robot toys in the market. I got the normal version because I couldn't pass the bargain price. Even with the missing cape, there's still potential for profit in its resale, but I'm keeping it. Most of all, I really wanted the Baron Ashura figure.

Go Ki Kaijus!www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/aoshima/baron.jpgI bought a Yamato 1/48 scale VF-1S (Roy's Valkyrie) in Hong Kong. It was MIB and priced at 860 HKD (111 USD ). Anyway, the VF-1S was displayed like this 2 weeks ago: www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/macross/roy.jpgThen last week, I saw a Yamato Macross 1/48 VF-IJ (Hikaru's Valkyrie) and a Super & Strike Parts Set selling at a local toyshop. I've attached the Strike Parts to my VF-1S. www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/macross/super.jpgwww.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/macross/super2.jpgThe VF-1J price was originally 4,200 NTD (128 USD). However, one edge of the box had a slight dent, so I asked the toyshop manager for a discount. He sold it to me for 3,700 NTD (113 USD). That's 15 USD saved because of a slightly dented box. Anyway, the price I got the VF-1J for is more or less the same price in Hong Kong, but this time I don't have the hassle of carrying the box with me on the flight. www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/macross/hikaru.jpgI'm really glad I got the VF-1J because the GBP armor set will be available here soon. I know... most collectors complain about the low or non-existent diecast content of Yamato products. On the other hand, the look of a 1/48 scale Valkyrie Fighter is just super-duper, master-excellent cool!

I bought both the versions since I've got two aoshima mazinkaisers and the max factory one, plus all the mazinga robots from bandai and the ones connected with the saga (garaga, doublas, boss, the robot-women and so on). That would have been too much for just one "poor" Dark General, don't you think so?

from zinc panic Aoshima's Miracle House has a few Shin Seiki Gokin nuggets to look forward to in 2006, including Black Getta Robo in August, and the original version Arcadia in October. Also planned is a TV colors version of Ankoku Daishogun, which will come with Duke Gorgon. (The same Duke Gorgan that came with the Kawai Mazinkaiser? Dunno.)

Maybe I'll get that TV color ankoku daishogun (tho it still won't be the same as the TV design- similar to getting SRW colors for the mazinkaiser). I'm really interested in the original version arcadia though. I'm sure it'd look nice by the SOP yamato.

There they go again LOL, and a few more recolors down the road. That's a good thing for me. I need that Ankoku. Mazinkai has been towering ovewr my other SOC's and being a mean bully. He needs someone with bigger zinc to kick his nuts.

Bro, The 1/48 Valkyrie from Yamato has very minimal diecast. The only diecast parts are as follows: - support strut for the legs/hips - front landing gear bay door - landing gear struts That's all of it. Yamato announced before hand that their 1/48 will contain as little diecast as possible. Here's a link to Graham's preliminary review of the 1/48 pre-production model, and the supplementary review link (at the bottom of the article), for the production VF-1A. www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/_sample48main.htmHope this helps.

Got mine yesterday and tht thing is preety hefty. Greatly sculpted, right amounts of zinc totally satisfying.....but its no surprise its aoshima. yeah, i hate their repaints as well although I wish they'd re-issue their 1/48 die-cast airwolf offering the price started @ $60-$80US now its skyrocketed to like $200US before I had the chance to get one.
