After looking at the design of Toynami's MP Voltron;I'm just wondering, is it likely that Golion will be part of the SOC line?

I read somewhere that the rights to Golion was purchased by World Events Productions, the company who brought in Golion as Voltron to the US. If this is true, then Bandai has to get permission from World Events first before they can do an SOC rendition of Golion/Voltron. And Toynami already beat them to the punch IMO with the MP Voltron

You guys, if you really want a SOC version of Golion, it will take only one thing; money a shietload of it! WEP or World Event Production is selling the whole enchilada as an IP or Intellectual Property to someone who can give them an offer they can't refuse...you know the horse thingy, anyway, here's the plan we all chip and buy the IP, I work for a firm that has Corporate Law and IP Transactional Attorneys which may help us for free. We but the IP, send Jessica Simpson or Eva Longoria, or FILL IN HOT A$$ Babe in here with an offer to Bandai to make GX-35(36??) Go Lion with the condition that all of us here get two copies of the said SOC, before anyone else in this planet, oh yeah we need to get two of each variant... LOL
I wonder how much WEP is willing to sell it for, last time I check their website they had it advertised heavily as"Voltron for sale." The other thing, what if Bandai has some 30 or 50 year deal of franchise rights, hence Golion? After all was the matchbox Voltron license from WEP or Bandai? The other thing, Does WEP own Albegas andDaiRugger XV? I could have sworn as a kid watching the three Voltron series teaser I saw Daltanias...Do they own that as well?
Form Voltron, Activate Dynotherms, engage interlock, megathrusters are go! Form feet and legs, form arms and torso, and I'll form; the head! BTW, this was not in the original Golion, this was added on by WEP...weak really, it is better had "Keith" just kept his mouth shut! LOL

Acording to a press release on World Event Productions web site, Toynami received a three-year merchandising license for Voltron around August 2003. If this is the case the license could be up for grabs again later this year. If their license is up this year, and no rumours of Albegas and Dairugger XV have surfaced yet, it looks as though Toynami won't be releasing them. It's possible they were not included as there is no mention of them I can find on the site. It is possible Toynami have negotiated the option of an extension, but otherwise Bandai may be able to license the rights to a Golion SOC. Hope this is of interest Just my opinion, but I still can't see Bandai releasing a SOC Golion anytime soon. The Toynami version has sold quite well, and while some people are not entirly happy with it, it's existance would still damage the sales of an SOC. Also, with Bandai's re-issue policy on SOC models they would be looking for a longer license than three years. And why pay for a short term license when they already own the rights to so many other robots?

on top of that were bandai to make a voltron SOC it'd likely be the size of Voltes & Combattler as opposed to Toynami's towering version
So I really don't know how i'd feel about that. Now that we've all been used to seeing toynami's MPC version for size and die-cast can we really be satisfied by an SOC version ?
It would boil down to [toynami] large w/ mediocre quality as opposed to small good quality [bandai]

I am quite happy with Toynami's version. Die-cast content and articulation wise it is just perfect. I wish Bandai to focus on other robots like Daimos, Mekanda, etc.

Now that we've all been used to seeing toynami's MPC version for size and die-cast can we really be satisfied by an SOC version ? It would boil down to [toynami] large w/ mediocre quality as opposed to small good quality [bandai] I understand, and partially agree. However, one thing an SOC Golion COULD have, would be more gimmicks. Based on the pics I've seen of the Toynami Voltron, there really aren't many gimmicks or accessories, quite unlike the original Popy Golion. Where are all the individual Lions' blades and rocket launchers? Nowhere on the Toynami. Also, as great as the Toynami version looks, I still feel there are many things that could have easily been done differently to make it look even better, or even more like the anime version. For example, the thighs could have been less lanky. The wings could have been a tad larger, not to mention they could have had the white inset panels painted on them. And to be EXTRA nitpicky, the entire red panel on his chest could have been painted red as it appeared in the show, instead of having just the outer surface painted as it was on the original toy. How about gold chrome parts by the joints? If they're going to chrome plate the legs, why not chrome the abdomen as well? Heck, they might as well chrome the Red and Green "elbow" joints too as a throwback to the original Popy release, while they're at it. Regarding transformation and combining, all of the limb Lions could/should have retracting legs, so that in Lion mode, not only will they have a wider stance, but they could fold in even better in combined mode with less extra stuff hanging off, thus giving him a more streamlined look as seen in the show. Anyway, to sum up my post, the Toynami one looks great, and will most probably be my next big robo purchase, but I still believe there is much more Bandai could do with a SOC version, even if it is sized more like Combattler and Voltes. I think many people would still buy it even if they already have the Toynami version, just as they have with the numerous releases Getter Robos, incarnations of Mazinger, and seemingly endless Optimus Prime variations.

Ok, does World Events have the license indefinitely or is there an expiration date of some sort? As much as I think the MP Voltron by Toynami looks good, it just doesn't have the true SOC look to it. The thighs and wings are what really kill me.

Golion is STILL licensed under Toei in Japan last time I heard, and SOCs are primarily intended for the Japanese market.
So there's no reason for Bandai Japan to NOT do their own version if ever...
