The only issues I have with this toy is the displayability and the styling. You need to use the freaking stand to keep it on its feet otherwise it will take a shelf dive. Second, if you are a typical SOC, super robot collector like me it doesn't blend too well with the rest of my collection. It's not a bad toy, it's just not for everyone. I know I will be selling my mythical version Aquarion as soon as I take pics and box it.

I know I will be selling my mythical version Aquarion as soon as I take pics and box it. I like the styling, but then I'm more into Armored Core and SRW, so Aquarion fits in fairly well with these guys. He's not a SOC figure for sure. As far as playability goes, I don't think I would say Aquarion is not playable. It's just that if you play with him, you have to lay him on his back (or use the stand) when picking something else up. But I'm trying to think of it from a kids point of view and I don't think this would be that big of a deal to them (although I doubt any kid under the age of 20 would ever have one). If you think about it, most kids aren't "playing" with their toys on the display shelf. They're on carpet, or whatever, and I think Aquarion is one of those guys that would be the main dude in your hands at all times. The transformation is complex, but again, I don't think this would bother a kid. He would have it down to a science in no time. So I guess I think he's fairly playable, but for us older kids, convenience plays a bigger role, and the details of the engineering stick out in our minds. For a kid, I don't think these would be issues. When I was a kid, the coolest toys were whatever had the most stuff and looked like a tough dude. Everything else was inconsequential. So coming from that point of view, Aquarion generally wins on those points.

i really like kawamori's (did i get the name right?) Armored Core mech designs. but aquarion's design was too high tech for me. the insect-like features didn't work for me. i want the classic SR look. just me.
