Well in the business there seems to be a price for an item imported from Japan. So some collector may want to get their hands on a genuine japanese figure. But the one from HK or somewhere else are the same exact toys.
Now that most of SOC are released in the US, I will not buy anymore from Japan, because it's the same things. It's up to you to find out if it's necessary for you to have the right sticker on the box.

Die cast Combattler twin lancer, anyone?! Or extra Gaiking in the GX-05R?!

except for the GX-05/05R which is made in thailand ;D ;D Is is true that the GX-05R is still made in Thailand?! I thought it went back to made in China since the original version has less than desired paintjob... Curious!

i was informed that the hologram sticker made the box twice more expensive. kinda make you wonder why make it that way. my "friend" also told me that it was for the protection of the backdoor products reaching the SOC japan market.
also, my "friend" informed me that online japan markets had stocks for outside japan costomers being worldwide editions. dont know what that mean.
my "friend" is not with me right now but i remember him saying these facts.
my "friend" says he will be back with a lot more surprises. but i will keep him off my computer. you better give me more gifts my "friend". ;D
his statements seems to coincide lately, but i still consider most of my "friends" statement hokey. need more proof "friend (Plegueis dog)". But i believe you buddy. ;D

In a country where bootlegs run rampant, it is a big deal to know that your item is "genuine". Let's take the store, Happy Hobby 365, of Taiwan for example. The so called "Japan versions" are priced 15% to 30% higher than China/Taiwan releases. Obviously, if you are a Taiwanese customer who doesn't know the fact they are the same (are they really???) you may be inclined to buy the "Japan version" for the peace of mind. This happans to other countries too, btw.

I want SOC to be made in Japan. I realize if that were to happen, I would not be able to afford SOCs, but in general I do not like stuff made in China...which is just about everything these days.

i agree with zman, i remember pleguies telling me that those stickers cost a lot of money to produce. so why stick them to a non genuine product intended for the japanese market. i dont know about the market but lately pleguies has been making sense to me.
obviously the stores will tell you lies just to sell products not of genuine origins. they may even switch these products for the genuine so much so they could get back their investments.
just my opinion on these matters.
thank god for free forums such as robot japan. i feel so justified for my friend plegueis.

This reminds me of the Sony Outlet Store here in the US. They sell new (Class A), refurbished, and "Class B" products. If I remember correctly, Class B products are brand new in brand new packaging (same as Class A) except they may have failed the final inspections which means the problem is negligible or miniscule. They put a "Class B" sticker on the packaging to differentiate it with the regular item. I bought a $15 Class B headphone ($30 if Class A) and to my untrained eye and ears, there were no differences.
Could the Japanese versions be "Class A" products and the rest be "Class B' products?

very intelligent observation zman, not that im pulling your leg but you seem to itterate subtle and very important facts.
i also noticed sony doing this to their playstation 2 units here in the philippines. PS2 "refurbished" units lately has been flooding the market here and they were first labeled as such during the early times but lately the stores that carry them found a way to sell them as brand new A1 products. tsk tsk. not good since the lens of these PS2 units does not last longer that the brand new units. they were overheating after 3 hours of use not like the original PS2 units that i could use till i drop myself to sleep. ;D

I thought these things are only happening in Indonesia! Recently, there were discoveries of vendors selling refurbished TVs. The shell/case might look fine on the outside, but upon further inspection, it was found that the internal were a frankenstein monster of many used parts (even computer monitor parts!!)... But these vendors would advertise their product as refurbished, so it's the customer's choice. Even more recently, there had been discoveries of vendors selling refurbished cellphones, but these items were advertised as brand new with brand warranties!! There's no protection to consumers anymore... About the refurbished PS2, I have gotten one of these supposed to be refurbished item in 2004, the bios code is SCPH30003, instead of the more common bios code of SCPH600___ at the time (sorry, can't recall), but this baby still last up to today. Although I don't play my PS2 everyday, there had been frequent instances where I play it for 6 - 12 hours straight. Maybe it's not refurbished at all...

hello nikodiablo, you are lucky to get a ps2 that does not overheat.
here in the philippines. its buy at your own risk. warranty are a myth here. so its like a gamble to buy a ps2 here. but pinoys are still buying them. they have no choice. sony philippines does sell the ps2 here but the prices of original ps2 and the games are beyond the reach of ordinary pinoy players. so pirated products here are very common.

OT: sorry but i've acquired my sony ps2 white edition with the grand turismo cd game from sony corporation itself last november 2004 at parksquare 1 makati, though a little morer expensive compare to waht is out locally.. it has a one year warranty and yes it is not modified to accept pirated games

hello 45caliber, nice name.
i remember what 45caliber's ps2 unit code is. SCPH20001R if im not mistaken. this was a special ps2 version with a gran turismo game with it.
going back to the sticker and japan original products issue. i think the SOC was really intended for the japanese market and backdoor items were just for the niche market outside. if bandai is concerned about the outside market for the SOC. why dont they make an english manual and a version for the outside market? just look at the future SOC on the list.
with this in mind and the fact that the SOC is for the japanese market. i think the box with the hologram sticker is a way of giving the japanese market the genuine product.
china is the cheapest labor for manufacturing these products. so i think that is why everything now is made in china. and since chinese are highly skilled people. these may be the reason why companies who manufacture quality toys has their eye on the chinese factories.
