I think the spec is for specificications, like the specs of a car. I know that the Japanese also use that abbreviation.
It would be awesome if this line branched out to non-eva stuff like mazinger and turned out to be a modern chokinzoku.

Could be that "armored' Eva we saw a few years back, it only appeared in the SRW games I think, so the "spec" could stand for special.

It isn't that- this is an evangelion that can have the normal armor from the anime removed to show the "artificial human" interior. Also, the "spec" in japanese is written supekku, so it's a hard c, not a sh sound.

I think it looks good, I just hope they give it an anime accurate paintjob this time.

Actually manny, kinzoku just means metal, not steel. You're right that they did one chokinzoku tetsujin 28 years ago, and I was thinking that it would be cool if they revived that with new diecast robots with internal details like the tetsujin had. This eva reminded me of that because it is going to have the internal body, but when I think about it more, it seems likely that the internal body on this won't be diecast, making it more like the saint seiya stuff.

I was referring to that line, but only talking about the idea of a new line something like it. Was that really made out of steel, not diecast? I never knew that! Nevertheless, the name of the line just means "super metal." Steel in japanese is "hagane."
I saw a picture I hadn't seen before for this eva over at bigbadtoystore.com btw guys.
